This is an image-buying site and I'm not concerned at this point about blog posts, etc. I would like to get rid of all of that. You can see an area called Leave a Reply then comment on my Home Page. How can I get rid of that? I know someone else asked this, but I don't remember what thread it was in. It would be helpful when someone asks a question like this, a new topic is opened so it can be found easily. Thanks!

Go to pages tab (or blog posts) and mass-edit them: do not allow comments.

Also on your wordpress settings you can  change the value : allow people to comment to on or off. (from memory)

Yes, comment fields on pages (like about) is pretty tacky.

BTW - any content on your site is good. Keeps search engines coming back, with more reasons for people to land on your site. Just push your blog to the background, but it definitely has a good place in getting site traffic.

Thanks Leo.

I remember when Wordpress came out, the buzz was that it was going to allow anyone to build their own blog or site. This is my third Wordpress site and frankly, I don't find the admin area all that user-friendly. So thanks everyone for the help! I am anxious to actually get to the point where I can upload images!

If you go to Edit Pages and edit your about page, for instance, you should see a Discussion area down towards the bottom where you can uncheck a box that says "allow comments". If you dont see this box, go to Screen Options in top right and check "comments" in there and refresh page. This will then display the ability to disable comments if that makes sense!

Don't worry, it tends to be a little much to start with but it will become second nature. If you can keep up with stockphotography quirks and considerations, wordpress is small in comparison as a learning curve.

Yep, this did the trick. I think I unchecked those early on in an attempt to get rid of them (I thought by unchecking would mean they would go away.) Thanks Steve and Leo!

I think you have your settings for front page set to something inaccessible - like blog posts that don't exist? Its in your settings (probably general, reading, etc).

Here's a little something on front pages - http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

I am having comments and blog posts appear on various pages, and I see the two check boxes that used to turn them off are gone. How do I get rid of those on pages now?

You should be able to go to Pages - All Pages and select the check box at the top to select all pages and select Edit from the Bulk Actions drop down and the click the Apply button.  That brings up an edit option panel and towards the right you can select allow or do not allow on the Comments option then update.

that is actually an issue that will have to be dealt with in the next update..

I brought that up in the bug stomping thread.. the only way to stop comments from appearing is "processing to drafts" when you are uploading rather than publish.. I know it sounds weird but that is what's happening..

you can check the bug stomping thread as it was mentioned there with more details..
