Yes, it could have been an interesting discussion, but the opening for it seemed so juvenile and inexplicably, unnecessarily hateful that I thought I'd fallen asleep and woken up in the wrong forum.

Mind you, I tend to switch off the moment I see 'Bwahaaahaaa' in a post.

I really wish someone in the contributor's corner would come up with a solution (that no doubt will involve boatloads of money) to fight back. Rather than call me names, tell me specifically what I can do to help stop it. We all can see the problem. We need a solution.

Very well put, Cathy.  Agree 100%.  Calling names and verbal abuse don't solve anything.  We all know what the problems are.  Nobody has come up with a workable solution.

I don't think most would say that this isn't a legitimate concern.....that does seem to be the trend and we are not getting paid very well compared to the old trad days, for the most part. But you forgot the rest of his/her posts to complete the sentence: "You people should be getting paid for your work dumb arses, idiots, dimwits, wannabees, losers, dick heads...and the list goes on!

Exactly. It wasn't what he said, just the way he said it. (I'm guilty of that myself sometimes.)

I have a difficult time understanding why some contributors are still even at istock and some of the other sites after all the abuse they've doled out, but really, if everyone bailed like I did, the big guys will be getting exactly what they have in their master plan...squash microstock.

There's a few reasons why I'm still with istock.  It took several years uploading, I might as well get paid as much as I can for that work.
If most people left, so would I but the majority are still there.
There's a slim chance that new owners might be more contributor friendly one day.

As for a solution to the problems with microstock, I think we all have to do what we can.  Working together doesn't work, as there's very little we all agree on.  I've almost stopped uploading to the micros, concentrating on alamy and a few other sites that still pay a decent commission.  When I'm no longer dependent on my microstock earnings, it's going to be much easier to leave sites.  If they keep cutting commissions, I'm not going to have a reason to stay.

Why do some people feel the need to publicly announce their departure with great fanfare?  This happens a lot around here, and it leaves me scratching my head.

If someone really is fed up with this site and the community, isn't the rational thing just to stop posting?   Is it just some desperate grab for attention?  Do they hope to see a chorus of people begging them to stay?

And FWIW, I have yet to see anyone quit this group by publicly announcing it and actually stay gone.  If a troll rants in the woods and there's nobody around to read it, did they make a point?   The lure of an audience is too great to resist.  Sadstock is absolutely right - antistock will be back under another name.  Maybe he/she's already signed up.

I am sure he has been here before..

I remember reading his kind of rants a few years back.. He was like a clone of those previous trolls that also left in similar manner..

if anyone really cared there 's software to do linguistic analysis of texts -- there's a quite interesting article in the latest new yorker about its uses in foremsic testimony in court cases
