Anybody else got an Action required email re

....we are reaching out to notify you about changes to our tax requirements that may impact your payment. Starting in July 2018 we will require all contributors to have an approved tax form on file with Shutterstock in order to be eligible to receive a payment of accrued earnings from Shutterstock.
In order to receive your accrued earnings in August, please ensure that you have submitted a tax form and have had it approved by July 31, 2018. For additional information and detailed instructions please go to the Tax Center in your contributor account.
etc etc
I have a valid W8BEN with them and am just a bit bit concerned.
?

I got that E-Mail too. My tax form has expired. On my dashboard, at the top, there is a box: "The tax form we have on file from you has expired. Please submit a new tax form."

I got that email but I don't have this message on my dashboard.

My tax form was approved on 13/12/2016.

I also received this very unclear email this morning and contacted support about it.

The subject line said "Action required" and it was personalized in that it was addressed to me by name. However, when I went to look at the tax center on the web site, I have a form (from 2013) which does not say it's expired, so I don't know why I received the email. None of my information has changed.

I'll post here if I receive a reply.

They were just lazy and didn't bother to filter who received the email - only people with no form or an expired form should have as far as I can tell - or to write explicit instructions about what to do.

Yes, it is a VERY CONFUSING email.

I login to https://submit.shutterstock.com/legal/taxes/ and I can see my

Form W-8BEN  approved on 10/01/2018

So, do I still need to do anything? It didn't say expire or anything.

I would never resubmit the tax form using a link from an E-Mail.

My last tax form was dated December 2016 and W-8 form is valid for 3 calendar years.

In the email they say "We are reaching out to notify you about changes to our tax requirements....".

I didn't compare the old and new forms word by word by out of my head I see some changes in the text of the new form itself. I think that is why they are asking for a new one.

In my case 2016+2017+2018 make up three calendar years, so it was due to renew it soon.

Anyway, I submitted a new form and it was approved instantly.

If I remember correctly, they always asked to renew the form much earlier than its expiration date.

Yes, I got it twice too.
Maybe they do need a new one - but the old one is only 6 months old.
Will watch this space.
Still, reassuring to see I am not alone I guess........

So, if your form expired anyway, what are you waiting for?

You don't have to resubmit the tax form using a link from an E-Mail, you submit a new one on SS tax center page.

Tax form resubmitted this morning in the tax center. When I received the E-Mail it was bedtime here.
Not using a link from an E-Mail cause I'm angious of phishing

I also recieve this mail. I have my tax form aproved on January of this year. I contacted support and they answer me "We apologize for any confusion this email might have caused. Since having an approved tax form on file is a new requirement for all of our Contributors, this message was meant to be a reminder for those that have not provided one to do so. If you have already submitted one and it has been approved and is on file, you may disregard this request."

I received a similar reply this morning too.

This was better - less confusing - than the original email, but they've managed to muddy the waters by including language I don't see on my Tax Center page "...and is on file," My page says the date on which my most recent W-9 was approved, but says nothing at all about whether it's on file or not.

I assume this is just their way of saying "once we have processed the approval of your file internally and updated the status in your account data" but when you send messages of this sort you need to use the language that's in use on the web site where people go to check.

Or, in the support reply, confirm that your account is all set instead of saying that this was a reminder for those who have not provided a form and if you have already submitted one...

Of course, better do the check up front and only send the email to those contributors who actually need to take action...

Mine is older, also W-8 there was nothing that said I needed a new form. Confusing is right. But it's really from SS.
