As of recently everyone at SS is questioning the sales of old sales skyrocketing and new sales being invisible.

Most of everyone seems to think it is a bug that needs fix and a few small others think that the new VP of content may have changed the search algorithm.

So the days of feeding the beast will be long gone if the search has been changed because there will be no need to rush and get new images in for sales because of older files selling.

So what do you think about it?

Here is what i wrote on the forum at SS.

If you look at it from a business standpoint.

You have a site with almost 18,000,000 images and with the old search and newest always selling the buyers were probably looking at the first 2,000,000 images leaving SS holding almost 16,000,000 images sitting in the dark available but unseen to the buyers because they are only looking at the newest in the search and probably only the first few pages.

So now perhaps SS has decided it is time to put those other 16,000,000 images out there in a search instead of leaving them unseen and buried from the buyers by changing the search somehow.

Just a thought.

I mean if you had a business and had merchandise not selling wouldn't you find a way to move it?

In November one of the top 10 microstockers complained that his new SS images were going missing and that new images were not selling at SS, he let SS know he would not be uploading new images until SS resolved the issue.   And he also voiced concerns about future sales at SS if this trend continued.

I have similar concerns. I shoot with quality not quantity in mind and to keep my sales volume up I need new images to sell. If this sales trend continues I will look for other options for my images as I am not interested in uploading lower quality images in quantities high enough to maintain acceptable returns.  Currently I am seeing much better returns for my new work in other venues.

So no, I do not think it is savvy search engine programming to move old or different content, instead I think the SS site is not running on all pistons. Why in the world would any site want to suppress sales for new content when competing sites have fresh content readily accessible to buyers.

I am selling well at SS but it is the same old images that have been selling year after year and in some areas of the world it looks like they have hit saturation because sales for the money shots which have sold in the 1000 to 2000 plus range are dropping.

I can see your point and worries actually. When the images finally die, then what?  been there many times. I have some stockbroking shots on LF film, they sell as RM, they were drumscanned in 1990,  22 years back and they are still selling as well today as they did over 20 years back. Just no way of telling. High quality shots, are hard to kill. :)
