Hi, all,
I sell illustrations and vectors on SS, but I also want to try to sell video and photo, since I already have a 4k camera.
Should I create separate account for photo and video?
I'm doing good with vectors and I don't want to mess something up.
Do you think it would be counterproductive to mix content?

Thank you for you answer.
Actually, I was going to create that second account for my wife. We are together in stock illustration and we use one (my) account right now.
What I'm trying to ask is...
Do you think that if I mix content (adding photo and video to my illustration/vector portfolio) it may hurt my search rankings and sales?

My opinion is, that it doesn't matter.

I'd agree - no difference - and people opened second accounts, claiming it was for their wife, have had their accounts shut down for violations of the TOS. Why would two accounts make a difference?

Why do you think that?
I have vector, footage and illustrations combined and it never hurt my sales. I see no reason why it would.

And don't create a second account, not for your wife either. SS may shut it down and ban you even though it's your wife's account. It's much better to have one big portfolio anyway.

On SS there is another reason for not using different accounts:
If you and your wife have 1 account each, you both have to climb the levels each year - if you combine your accounts, you will reach the higher levels faster.

Thank you all for your replies!
I'll use only one account.
Good point about climbing the ladder!

And I see you are at Wirestock too, which is another way to reach a higher level faster. But good point ^ for anyone who actually does reach higher levels.

I thought people were deleting accounts rather than creating new ones.  ;D

My portfolio is mixed. I have Photos, Videos, 3D Renders, Vectors and Illustrations.
My experience is like this:

- on SS: i sell mostly photos. this might be due to the fact that my portfolio is predominated by these kinds of assets
- on AS: i sell some vectors but mostly photos, though I sell more vectors compared to SS
- on iS: i sell mixed. it's like they don't care about the predomination of your portfolio or maybe they have more vectors oriented clients, taking into consideration that my portfolio is 60%-70% photos.

Hope this helps

Exactly. And lots of threads here about SS. Guess everybody reactivated their accounts.  ::)

Or never deleted our account because we make money from SS.

No... it means he can buy one more cheeseburger than you can every month!

LOL, I can go to fancy restaurant. Why? Because ShitterStock cannot sell my video clip for $0,25 but AdobeStock or Pond5 can sell for $30. I know, mathematics is really hard sometimes.  ;D

Sorry, doesn't work that way. Without him disclosing his total earnings, or you disclosing your total earnings.... all we had to go on from the information provided at that point, is that he's getting a cheeseburger every month by contributing to SS. And you aren't. As a result... he's doing better than you.

So what if you earn more at P5 and Adobe? Maybe he earns more at P5 and Adobe as well? Maybe he earns just as much, if not more, than you at P5 and Adobe so he can dine at your fancy restaurant too... but he also has his cheeseburger to come home to if the fancy portions didn't quite fill the gap.

Oh and just a side note....

$30 = $30

$30 + $0.25 = $30.25

The final number at the bottom (the one on the far right with the 2 and the 5 after the little dot thing) is a bigger number. I know that's hard to get your head around, but it is pretty straightforward!

The problem is not, that $30.25 is more than $30. Problem is, that it's just $0.25 more, for a video sale.

Well it's not automatically $0.25! Sure, more often than that it's closer to that, but the average is still a lot higher than 25 cents. The point is, you're just leaving money on the table.

I see you're offended. If some clips is sold SS it probably wont on Pond5, right? So I sell on the P5 for $ 30 and you on the SS for $ 0.25. That is $29,75 in difference. I see that your knowledge of mathematics is really poor. No big deal, just eat a cheeseburger.  ;D

you're assuming a clip will sell on both sites - where's your data to back up that claim?

I didn't mean to start a fire here.

LOL, you just provided the kindling and the matches, other people started the fire? I don't think anyone enjoys or likes the dime downloads, or the reset. I took all my videos off SS, but not the snapshots.

I think some people that left, weren't happy to start with and the commission cut was just the final blow that made deciding to leave, easier. I still make more from SS than any other agency, although except for one EL this year, Adobe has either caught up or SS has dropped so much, that they are running even.

But I have to say, in simple terms, if I make $50 a month from SS, that's $50 I didn't have, and $600 a year more than if I took everything and closed down, just because they make me angry. I'm not going to make that up somewhere else, as some people imagine. Nothing is so special or unique that a buyer will go to Adobe or iStock or DT, to get my original image, just because it's not on SS.

Meanwhile, in a parallel, I leave my IS account, because I get paid a bottle of good single malt a year, for doing nothing. That's no cheeseburger.

And for someone who's angry at the changes, doesn't like SS, they are now making nothing, 100% of nothing, instead of a little something. That's self inflicted and a personal choice, but it's still nothing. Surely SS doesn't care if I leave, no one else should care, the only one who loses and is harmed, would be myself. And the cause would be, my own actions.

Making enough for a stale, cold, tuna sandwich, would be more?
