iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is contract termination now?
« on: October 31, 2019, 08:10 »
Where is the cheating in the other 250 images totally produced by me?

Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh but seems like losing out on 250 images is hardly going to lead you to "have some financial difficulties and I am using image bank earnings to help pay some bills." Relatively easy to start over.

If SS closed my account with 10k images and nearly 1k videos I would lose out big time and they did threaten me.

I see, your account is still active... When did they closed it? and what they said to threaten you?

No impact on my account. They threatened to because I was trying to help them wack some moles (what, my thoughts exactly). I got a 6 day SS forum ban and 30 days moderation.

That is just simply pathetic on SS part

You have never read this in the TOS where you upload?
Or you have never come across this issue on any forum where employing other peoples images into a new manipulated work has been discussed, often with much anger?

Doesnt look like you have much recourse here

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy. Philanthropy is in our DNA
« on: October 09, 2019, 17:08 »
It's hard to fathom how tone deaf you have to be - how little you understand your contributor community - to post here about how you're taking a portion of profits to donate to charities (all of which I'm sure are most worthy).

Not once, but twice you've pleaded the business needed a larger share of the gross as your reason for cutting royalty payments to contributors (in the time I've been with Alamy).

From my perspective, that's our money that you have decided to donate to charities on our behalf. Don't expect me, and I suspect many other contributors, to feel good about that.

I don't think that's how it works.
I think the only reason Alamy exists is to help fund these charities, i.e. that's what it was set up for.

Yes I remember reading about this and somehow the way in which the whole thing is set up sounds like a legitimate way of having to avoid paying taxes

I have noticed a few people here just love busting his balls. 🙄
Kinda makes you wonder why after a while, doesn't it?

I dont wonder. Some people are just bullies. Especially when they can hide behind fake names. If you dont like him, fair enough. Do you (and everyone else that does it) have to call him out every freakin time he says something? He has never been anything but kind to me. He has a lot of experience, for many years. Theres an ignore button, if he bugs you that much. Just an idea.

Some people just cant let go of a grudge... to their own detriment

Send the dmca, why should you have sales taken away from what is rightly yours?

Does this mean that SS is planning to reverse sales that are returned images, or ones purchased through fraudulent credit cards?

I fear more good news is on the way!

Payout should be $25 for DT
$100 threshold is ridiculous given the micro stock environment in general, never mind a low volume sales one like DT

I think several years ago they had an opportunity to be bought out
In hindsight they should have took the money and run, now they are barely eking out an existence

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy - is it worth it?
« on: August 27, 2019, 08:35 »
Hi Brian,

Looking through your port, I don't see how you would have many sales on Alamy.

Most of my sales on there are of news-type editorials and general travel postcard type shots.

I would agree with Brasilnut on this
Your port seems more geared toward a true stock photo type of site, whereas Alamy generally does well with more editorial type content

I dont have very many sales on Alamy, about 2-4 sales each month.
The sales can vary from very low single digit figures to $$$ sales, so sales can be all over the map.
Lately Ive had a good portion of sales be in the high $$ to $$$ amounts. About 18 months ago I even had a $$$$ sale but those are very rare.

For me personally, I find it is worth it although I do hate the upload process, having to fill out info on each image esp with regard to does this image have people/property visible? Do you have a release?

I am am based in North America and I find often the photographers that have more UK and Euro content tend to do better with sales than I would with my content. That is just my observation.

It can take time to realize sales, and it takes time for payments to be cleared as well, but overall I am quite satisfied with Alamy for a passive monthly payout

The portfolio is still there, so I replied to the "we're working on it" email with two examples of Getty images work the thief has claimed were his - along with a suggestion they need to look more closely at initial uploads of new contributors to stop this crazy behavior.
...
As noted above, the portfolio did come down, but today, a week and a half later, I received snotty email from Shutterstock compliance saying that they (1) had taken down the images; (2) rely on the integrity of their contributors not to infringe others' copyright; (3) were a "service provider" (their quotes) and would respond to proper DMCA take down notices;

(4) "Though your correspondence did not adhere to the strict statutory requirements of the DMCA, we elected to treat it as a proper notice and expeditiously removed the image(s) in question."

Very big of them to do me a favor that way...

This is a pathetic, butt-covering piece of corporate word barf apparently disavowing any and all responsibility for vetting their uploads and leaving it to copyright holders to submit streams of DMCA notices when thieves have uploaded their content to Shutterstock.

Tossers!

Pffft.....can it get any worse at Shitterstock?

Ive had a VERY low sales month of August , but the past few days sales have increased quite significantly.
The only thing I can think of when sales go from one extreme to the other is that SS has changed its search algorithm - so it seems now it favours my port and probably in a few weeks it will go the other way.

Life in the fast lane.

Childish attitude by SS...

Looks like youre better off being a thief on SS rather than a helpful member of the community there

SS is really messed up on so many levels

Yes, Thank you Matt for this news and convey our thanks to Adobe for doing this nice gesture in behalf of its contributers!

96
I sent both formats to the client just to be sure they wont have problems printing the image

Thank you all

97
the thread will be removed is we've learned  about SS modus operandi

and who knows how long before they shut down that port
if they do theres probably hundreds more just as bad that will keep on earning them money

by hook or by crook, i guess money is money

what a pathetic organization SS has become

98
I see SS deleted the latest "stolen images" threads and if I read correctly before the thread was deleted it seems Alex (Brasilnut) has been banned from the forum (waits to be corrected)
What is this some kind of weird big brother mentality in that outfit?

I can confirm that my account has been suspended for 3 days followed by 28 days of moderation for posting this suggestion to the SS forum.

SS is getting worse and worse for contributers
They dont give a rats ass about ports full of stolen images, behind the scenes sneaky snake deals like with FAA,  and are very hostile in their actions towards guys like Alex.
Frankly, I am starting to despise them and hope that one day someone with deep pockets and a big reputation gets violated and angry enough to launch a successful lawsuit and have it publicized

99
thank you for your replies
perhaps i will send an eps file along with a jpg file

100
the image is a photograph not an illustration

i dont know why they asked for an EPS file, ive always thought that jpg was fine to print even large format

does it make a difference if a photo is converted to eps?
