If you figure it out, let me know I'm not a Twitter girl, I am an FB girl tho. I still cant figure out the allure of the whole tweet thing.

Alamy does the same thing. I'm interested what others have to say.

Such a simple question lol  ;D. I don't really set goals it depends on what I've been shooting I'm not a set up/people kind of girl. Some days I do 10, 20 if I'm really in the zone. I've been tagging my computer the past couple of days on one pic because  I keep getting interrupted(two-legged, young variety) total of about 2 hours on this pic, but that's the exception. SO, I try to average 10.

« on: August 20, 2010, 16:13 »
That's one of the reasons why I just couldn't go exclusive.  Must be depressing having all your earnings from one site and not selling anything.  Istock is very slow for me this week, today is like a weekend day but the other sites have picked up and August is looking OK now.

Yeah, I'm ready to throw in the towel.  I had big plans at the start of the summer.  I was going to shoot enough to upload no fewer than 5 images per day, with the intent of doubling my income by Spring.  Based on my past earnings per accepted image, it seemed pretty easy.

So the last month I've had over 100 images accepted, and I think 4 of them have sales while the other ~100 or so languish.  In the meantime my previous best sellers have tanked, and now I'm thinking that if I followed through on my plans, at best I might add 10% or so to my earnings once I rebuilt it to previous levels.

Today is the first time where I hit the wall and said, "This is a waste of time and effort."  So after a month of hard work generated absolutely nothing in returns, I'm not going to keep shooting/uploading.  I'll give it until Fall.  If things pick up, I'll get active again.  If they don't, I'll go independent and cut my losses.

That just plain sucks. I wish you luck and keep posting your progress.

Consoling made me feel better.  Thanks all.  Anita: Our ports are similar size.  I think you also do graphics?  More than 5 images a day is still good for me. I do get a few OD and a single EL.  Just $10 from another payout and sweating these last 10 days.

For blufish ... don't be discouraged. SS is worth the effort.

Thanks. I plan to start again hard next week when school starts again. Summers are just a pain to get much done.

Want to see how buyers/graphic designers think?

http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2830&highlight=free+stock

Here's a GD forum listing all of the free stock sites they can find.

They will first search the free stuff. Then, and only then, if they can't find what they need will go buy it somewhere. For every free image that is good enough for them to use, one of us contributors just lost a sale. So the more images contributors offer for free the more the probability contributors are losing sales for themselves.

In my previous incarnation I was a GD. I did exactly that, hunt free first. Sometimes because I was doing a pro bono project, or a non profit, or just had a cheap client. Sad, now I'm on the other side. But there will always be free somewhere.

Why would anybody pay for something when they can get it for free. Now, if the free stuff didn't exist at all what would happen? They would need to create it themselves, steal it, or.... pay for it.

@Warren - I'll console you. I was rejected twice, trying my third time, and procrastinating it until I'm in a better mood. Better? At least you are in to feed the beast  ;D

Um, ok. I'm a newbie, but I agree with FD and rubyroo. Look anywhere on this forum and it is solid info that in order to make money, you have to get in shutter stock. This isn't newish info.

So im reading the news on my handy ipad, and what do i see? An image on the death tax story "courtesy of thinkstock". Thanks for being penny-pinchers,  CNN.  I looked it up on thinkstock and it's credited to Brand X. Here's the link in case you want to see

I'm new, but I've submitted photos there. I think I have about 60 up now. I haven't sold anything, but their commission structure is great. Fast and easy uploads too. Super easy. If they are key worded already, you upload and you are done. They don't take anything editorial or anything that requires releases.

What super timing to see that great link you posted, Warren.

While talking with my daughters at hospital today, I reminded them how - when their grandma had been in hospital - I printed out a large photo of Mom as a 20-something opera singer, wrote her name under it, and then taped it on the wall over her hospital bed, to help staff see her not only as their elderly patient with limited ability to communicate, but also as the vibrant, beautiful young adult she had been.

Thank you for that idea. My grandmother will be in and out and I'm going to use it. Thank you more than I can say.

Once in a while, I do buy. A few months ago I couldn't find the exact image I wanted so I did google. Found the perfect image through there on GL, which I didn't know existed, and bought it. Now I contribute there too. Sometimes google is worth the slog.
