123RF / Files disappearing« on: June 22, 2016, 15:44 »
I have been uploading to 123rf using the web browser. It looks like the files are uploading OK, but when I check in to find them later they are just gone-not in the processing queue, the incomplete queue or anywhere else that I can see. Is this normal? Would I have better luck using ftp? Do they ever show up or should I just try again?
I have had reasonable success with files selling once I get them uploaded, but the uploading process is a bear-at least for me. 3
Alamy.com / Alamy new submissions« on: December 10, 2015, 19:52 »
I failed my initial submission spectacularly-reasons given on 3 of 4 and they were all for soft/camera shake issues. They have passed SS and DT standards, which I understand is no reason that Alamy would have to pass them. I can't disagree with the reasons for the rejections, it's just a tougher standard than I am used to.
Much of my current work is political rallies. This means low light in crowded press areas. Would they stand a better chance submitted in the news category? It indicates that the tech requirements are a little looser. I want to get on Alamy-but I really hate to spend on a good monopod just for one site. I have a great tripod, but don't lug it to these rallies. I am a little confused by the submission process. I think I will like it once I get the knack of it, but I want to be careful not to wind up on that list of contributors that can wait up to 28 days to find out why images are rejected. 4
Selling Stock Direct / Linking to POD sites from personal site« on: November 27, 2015, 10:31 »
I purchased a domain intending to set it up to sell images/prints direct but I am intimidated by the complexity of the sales tax situation. I know I would need to charge sales tax for my home state and that different counties and municipalities can also add their own sales tax. Tracking all this seems rather more trouble than its worth for what I expect to earn.
Has anyone set up a referral type situation where a customer can link from an image on their portfolio directly to a POD site in exchange for a commission on a sale? IE, they would be linked to the product with my image already selected to be added to a whatever, the site would take care of sales tax, billing, and just send me some money? Or, has anybody found a good automated solution that handles VAT and sales tax issues well for a reasonable price?
