I am trying to understand the theoretical reasons why some agencies accept AI generated imagery and others dont. Meanwhile, Adobe is one of the few (and the largest platform) that does accept this type of content for sale. And then Getty (iStock), Shutterstock (Pond5), Alamy, and some others dont accept it. Or if they do accept it then it has to be imagery created with their own native AI generators that are controlled by that platform.
The basis for not accepting and licensing the content for sale for most of them is that AI image generating models/platforms scrape millions of copyrighted images from the internet in order to source ideas and, thus the content being used to generate the AI imagery is not free from rights.
So is the reason that sites like Adobe, Dreamstime, 123RF and others do accept AI generated content is that they see the AI platforms as only gaining creative inspiration and taking creative license from all the copyright content that is being scraped by the AI image generators and thus making it a non-violation of usage rights?
I am not sure what the right answer is here, but I guess theoretically these AI models using copyright content to generate their own images would be no different than a photographer looking at an existing copyrighted photo of an apple and then photographing their own apple in the same spirit with similar lighting and composition to the copyrighted image they saw.
An interesting debate.

Have achieved higher royalty rates during 2017? Will you start 2018 at the same royalty rate as in 2017? Or will you move down?
Perhaps you want to add some additional choice to your poll like: - I cancelled my Exclusivity with iStock - I closed my Getty account and pulled all of my images off of iStock

My AnySite income and downloads still continue to drop every month, despite uploading new files to AnySite on a regular basis. I think that it is an actual trend and that I am not the only one
My sales are also better on AnySite other than iStock. iStock has become a complete waste of time for myself and most other people. The ones who are claiming they are seeing increasing sales on iStock is unusual. AnyOtherSite is definitely better.

If you are iStock exclusive and uploading stuff to Alamy as Rights Managed content then no problem. But I believe Adobe only sells royalty free. If that is the case, if you are exclusive with iStock, and uploading royalty free content to Adobe, then you would have a problem.

I just started using the new system and not sure where everything is. I can see where royalties earnings are, but is there anywhere that shows the actual files that are selling?
Not yet we are promised this advanced facility towards the end of the month I believe.
Thanks. Was that mentioned in one of the emails from them or elsewhere in a forum post perhaps?
In the meantime, you can see the files that sold in January in a more contributor-friendly way by downloading the "txt" file from the "Export" tab, going to todayis20.com, registering there and uploading the file to it... that's about the best on offer just now!
Thanks. It sounds like what you are suggesting is downloading your personal sales data file from Getty and then uploading that information to a 3rd party site? Although it may work, I probably wouldn't do that for security reasons.
Not really a security issue, since they don't get your user account details, although if you are concerned about privacy issues it is the case that you are uploading your sales information - but the same could be said of StockPerformer.
And todayis20 has been around a while as a Getty contributor tool so not a sudden arrival or anything. But up to you.
Thanks. Understood. I will probably end up waiting to see what Getty offers first in the next month or two.

It was but to be honest they say so much I'm not going to try and find it...anyway what they say and what and when they do it are only tenuously linked.
Thanks. I agree. It is almost worth waiting to see what happens rather than acting or assuming much from announcements that are made until things actually take place.

There is a post from Admin on the iStock/Getty user forum about these problems.
If I understand this correctly - and I've not read everything they have posted about this - in short they are saying that the current live balance on contributor accounts is not available due to the 'Unification' change, which is moving contributor information to the Getty/ESP upload system. The implication seems to be that the user balance and sales statistics will no longer be available through iStock.
Crucially, they confirm that payout for balances which had reached the $100 mark by the end of December will be paid as usual on January 25th.
They also say that user's current iStock balance can be seen if you make use of DeepMeta or the iOS app iLucidata.
Obviously this is far from ideal but I've posted this info in the hope it may shed some light on what is happening there.
How does one install iLucidata onto their iPhone or iOS device? I can't find the app in the apps store. Also, a search on the Apple website produces 0 results: http://www.apple.com/us/search/iLucidata?src=globalnavOn the http://ilucidata.theasis.co.uk/ website they provide the following link to the app, which is dead too: https://itunes.apple.com/app/ilucidata/id909357982Well done!

You can at least still see your earnings iStock balance by logging in using DeepMeta and/or install this free app on a mobile device: http://microstockr.com/microstockr-mobileUPDATE: Sorry, yesterday the Microstockr app was still working with showing iStock balance. It is no longer working as of today. Perhaps they will update the app soon and get it working again.

All you have to do is click on Edit underneath the file number in My Uploads. Then click on the gray Save button at the bottom right. Go back to My Uploads and do a screen refresh. Done.

A couple of suggestions for any Adobe Stock admins that might be reading these threads:
1 - It would be great if the keywording function had a spell checker and/or some sort of word suggestion function as you are typing in your keyword. This would help prevent spelling errors on keywords and help to know which words the system recognizes and doesn't.
2 - When you have multiple images in "New" and the system feels they are all ready to be uploaded (when you in fact may not be finished working on all of them yet), it would be nice if there was a submit function which allowed you to choose which images you want to submit first and then hit Submit For Approval for just those images. As it is now, it takes all "Ready" images and tries to submit them. Then you have to first unselect them all and then select just the ones you want to submit and then hit submit. It seems like an extra step and a waste of time. Easier if one could just select the images to be submitted right from the start without having to unselect first.

I just started uploading a few images to Adobe Stock and a few questions have arisen in the process. At the moment I am using the Adobe Contributor Porthole to upload and my questions are as follows:
1 - After you upload an image and it is "In Review" is there any way to edit the image keywords?
2 - After you upload an image and it is "In Review" is there any way to delete the image so you can edit keywords and resubmit before it is approved?
3 - After an image is already in your Portfolio is there any way to edit or at least change the order of the keywords?
4 - When submitting keywords, would you need to submit a keyword twice in order to cover the singular form of the keyword? Or if for example you already submitted the keyword "beaches" would you still need to submit the word "beach" separately?
5 - On other things like proper names or two-word keywords, should you submit the words separately? For example "United States" or "Prime Minister", "Barack Obama", should the keywords be submitted singularly, one at a time or as a two-word keyword?
6 - On keywords that have multiple words to refer to the same thing, do we need to submit all, including acronyms, or is the system smart enough to cover all of them on a buyer search if you just submit one? For example, do you need all of the following? united states, america, usa, united, states, united states america.
Thank you for any insight you can offer please.

This is verbatim from the Getty petition they are flogging:
"In January 2013, Google drastically changed the presentation of results in image search. Instead of thumbnails, Google began displaying high resolution, large-format images. The new format also contained reduced information about the source, credit and copyright of the image."
I guess that wouldn't have anything to do with the Getty/Google deal when Getty gave Google free use of all those thousands of iStock contributor images.
What do you tell a kid that has 2 black eyes? Nothing, he's been told twice already.

I normally don't look at what I am paid on GI sales, but this month I had a look over various past months and noticed that on many sales I was paid less than $0.20 per download. How can this be? These aren't supposed to be sub or partner sales. Do other people experience the same low royalties on GI sales? This is even lower than what Shutterstock pays on sub sales.

I don't meant to hijack this post, or go off topic here, but is there any way to change keywords on files on Shutterstock in a group temporarily so that they don't appear in site searches for a period of time?
Is there perhaps a way to even select all the files within a set on Shutterstock that you have created and do a keyword edit like this to the entire set?
Lastly, I know on Shutterstock that you are able to remove your entire portfolio from the site temporarily (without deleting and of your files) by opting your portfolio out of active status. Then you can put your portfolio back online later if you like with just one click. Is there any way to do this to individual files on Shutterstock perhaps?

I have a popup demanding to install a new version. The warning is - that keywords will not be edited. Did somebody try this with old version already?
I just opened one file in Deep Meta 2.0.22 and changed one keyword. I then hit F6 to send updates to iStock and it seems to have done so. But I then checked the file on iStock and the keyword still appears to be in the file on the site. So in theory it works, but I am afraid in practice I don't think it does.

Back online now. Thank goodness for this thread or they may have never ever even known.
Sort of. Can't upload or fetch any file data with Deep Meta. 500 error there too. Guess they have enough files now and don't want any more?

Still down. Maybe they have gone out of business. No message about site being temporarily down. Guess I will head over to SS and buy what I need there.

hmmm. my peak was 2013 so I guess I'm up since 2012. Anyhoo...
Take your BME in 2013 and compare it to your current iStock account balance for May to calculate your percentage of fall.

You make it sound like no one here has ever tried that before. Lots have. First of all, unless you have big bucks to pay the search engines, your images are going to get buried behind all the agencies. Second, yes, building the site is the relatively easy part. It's what comes next thats not. Driving customers on a minute, hour, and daily basis is not so easy. I was not happy with a couple sales every month...even if i did make 100%.
Impossible? No. Just not as easy as you make it sound.
For sure, that is the part you will need to develop. And that is no easy task. Not saying it is. But once you have enough content on the site you can start driving it. And it is a great feeling to have your own store. A total feeling of freedom and empowerment. Sure, you can never compete with the big boys, but one wouldn't need to. What is different now though is also how the technology and the platforms are there now to receive low cost credit card payments and to host your content on a very fast cloud server for secure delivery. These things were not so readily available to the individual operator just a few years ago. If you think about it, the cost of starting your own business now has greatly gone down and the cost of keeping it running is so minimal now as well. All things we didn't have available in 2009 when iStock was still the biggest game in town.
