Isn't the fun of this uploading different types of things at first and seeing what sells and expanding upon those ideas, styles, etc>?

2
I think the best point brought up is that they take a huge slice of sales...then make money off these side deals/partnerships, and we don't know if this benefits us in the slightest. They used to be able to justify their larger commission...but these days that justification is extremely blurry

3
If I'm someone who purchases stock images for client work or for my company, would I be inclined to purchase an image people are using free in their slide shows? marketing to social users using the images for free isn't much of marketing, at least not to the right audience. I can't figure out the value of this to the contributors. Exposure doesn't pay the bills.

Still curious if gig owner gets a higher cut than contributor

Press release coming soon. Here some details on his deal http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=367443&page=1

Doesn't sound bad, except it Seems like fiver states logo usage is permitted but Getty states otherwise...so...confidence dipping :)

Wow, I can forgive when it's a similar concept, but there is no arguing that they copied here

Maybe a good lesson that not everything can/should be automated

I guess it is asking too much for them to open about such things to contributors...now we are going to make this a bigger issue than it may be because they will not share any details to us.

I'm curious about the TOS for the use of these on Fiverr and how they plan to police anything ( of course they don't)

God forbid they give a heads up and details to contributors. If the gig owner get 25% and the contributor gets less...*, that just feels wrong. Also, we have no idea what collections are even available to them.

BTW the whole $5 thing is a gimmick...they rely on the up sell...it's rare you find a full logo design for just $5 start to finish. At least a gig of any quality.

Fiverr is thrilled to announce the integration of Getty Images, one of the worlds leading creators and distributors of award-winning imagery. Through this partnership, Fiverr sellers will be able to offer buyers an incredible array of licensed, high-quality stock images! Protect yourself and your buyers by using only original content that has been fully licensed.

Youll be able to offer high-quality work with no risk. Take your pick from millions of images to offer your buyers, and earn a commission of 25% on every image sold. Its a win-win for everybody!

Using licensed images is as simple as 1-2-3:

1. Buyer orders your Gig, and adds a Stock Image extra for only $10.
2. Select an image and download it to use in the order.
3. Deliver the order to the buyer.

To enable the Stock Image extra, go to My Sales> My Gigs and check the Stock extra under Add Gig Extras

Adobe Stock / Adobe stock/Fotolia confusion
« on: June 27, 2015, 14:21 »
So, if I am already on Fotolia should I open an account with Adobe stock or are they one and the same?

You understand that h264 MP4 is compressed...ideal as a final shareable video format, but not as ideal for video production.

Very poor April here...hope PP bumps it up a bit

The problem with the rules the agencies set to weed out poor images also tend to weed out the creative images that stand out and may in fact sell well. So we get a lot of the same often, which is a big negative when looking through images on micro stock sites. I guess the reality is that creative intuition is not something you can teach inspectors. I think as long as the norm makes them some money they are too jaded to see something more

This is happening in every industry. Everything has been devalued, the minute companies found out they can have things built for cheaper in third world countries and still charge the same if not more, they all jumped aboard, and those who resisted at first didn't have much of a choice later as they needed to stay competitive. Things are bleak now, but those third world countries now seem to have money coming in that was never there before and even their rates are going up...eventually the cheap labor will no longer be in the third world countries...you cannot blame just one person, it started out as greed and became a race to stay competitive. Now is a time that creativity is more important than knowledge of the tools.

The bubble will burst....just a matter of when.

I don't participate in any type if SPEC work, another thing devaluing art and our industry. Here is a fun series that rips apart crowd sourcing sites like this:

How would contributors get paid with this model? Why would we contribute there?

I would be very concerned about the Getty/istock financial problems.  How are they going to get the money they need to keep going?  Seems likely to me that they will have to cut exclusive commissions, as what other options do they have?  So I would be more inclined to go with Pond5 and all the other non-exclusive sites.

If they do, then exclusives have the option to bail

I do well as a video exclusive on iStock, although the royalties vary a lot for me $8-100+. Lately thing have been solid and video carries the bulk of my earnings there.

Okay, they didn't grow, but it seems like decided to put money back into the business to make improvements...whats wrong with that? Does every business have to grow all the time? I find it admirable that they decided to do this over taking a profit...seems shortsighted to fault them on a short term move that probably pays off long term.

And there are plenty of content providers making some money on YouTube.

General Stock Discussion / Re: A COPYCAT

.... Let him be Burger King to your McDonalds...
BK is so much better than Mickey D !  ;)

They are both crap, but the analogy comes from Burger King always following and copying McDonalds, may not ring as true today, but that is a common business analogy when talking about copycats. Also pointing out it copying happens in all fields,
