Hi. so I AM considering going exclusive with pon5 with around 900 clips. the question is, is it worth it? I had my first sale with them this month, and thinking to get the most money from my video.

I did sold more videos on AS, but they have different prices, so each time the sale was different. Thanks

I have a few thousand files exclusive in P5. For me it is not worth it all all, but for editorial files it is. Lots of factors to take one decision or another.  Everyone need to decide. it is better to have files on both, but i think you will discover it is not worth it.

I went exclusive with Pond5, and it was the best thing i could have done. Because i make much more now, than i ever did before.
And the reason are the high prices, i sell clips at 299$ so that made all the difference for me.
And nobody steals your content at that price thats for sure.
So higher prices and the higher commission for being exclusive on Pond5 leads to a very high profits per sold video.
Wish you best of luck

May I ask how many files you have in your port?

I'm all in exclusive with 30k videos on Pond5.  I stopped selling on Shutterstock when they started video subs and saw my sales go down drastically.  Also deleted all my videos on Adobe Stock last year because 80+% of my video sales became cheap video subs.  It's not easy to just be Pond5 exclusive, but you'll get instant 50% raise in royalty from 40% to 60%.  That's a good feeling.  But also, I think pricing is important to maximize your revenue on Pond5.  Customers who come to Pond5 buy clips because they couldn't find them on StoryBlocks, Shutterstock, Adobe Stock and other cheap stock video sites.  They don't buy your video because it's cheap.  They buy it because they need it that they couldn't find anywhere else.  I started this new pricing strategy at the end of March.  It's working well since.

As I mentioned in another thread, exclusive did not work out well for me. Previously, I was happy with my sales I was getting beforehand (even with a tiny port size.) I could see that P5 had great potential with the sales that I saw coming in. Well that all stopped as soon as I opened an exclusive account and moved all my videos to it. Since then, sales are super rare and are almost non existant.

Sure, i have soon 2500 clips on Pond5 exclusive, just make sure to upload new content regularly.
Here are my last sold files, i will test higher prices in the future as well, but so far 299$ works great for me, if you have somthing very uniq, you might even go to 500-700$ range.

Interesting to know. What you mean by unique?

unique means that the content is that speciel because only you offering it, in that case customers are willing to pay a premium price if its exactly what they need, because they cant get it anywere else.

Thanks, I'm still thinking. Because I sold more videos on Adobe than P5, and to be honest, i had my first sale with them last week, basically in 1 year time 1 sale.

I went exclusive with P5 and Shutterstock in August - and haven't sold anything on P5 since, whilst clip sales have increased on Shutterstock.

On average, about $6 per clip.

i am exclusive since beginning, i have around 500 clips. but last year my sales vanished. i was earning 300 usd each month but now hardly 30. they also started to sell my unique 3d animations for 3 dollars!  what i can do is setting them offline.

As follows from this post, to be successful on the pond, you need to have unique content that no one else has, and only in this case an exclusive account gives results.

So, you were exclusive and they were selling your animations for $3, is this correct?

I thought being exclusive at P5 was for selling content exclusively for the price you set with a 60% commission rate.

Being P5 Exclusive does not lock in a content price set by a contributor.

P5's contributor contract allows P5 to determine the actual sales price - regardless of what price a  contributor sets - Exclusive or not.

I believe most all stock agency contributor contracts have this type clause.  It allows the agency to negotiate the selling price with a buyer to make the sale.

It's also known that being exclusive does not give you favorable placement in search. As an exclusive you still compete on a level playing field with non-exclusives. I have shared a while back with P5 that they should consider a search boost to exclusives if they wanted to attract more of them.

That would be a plus for being P5 Exclusive.

I suspect there are "private" contracts between P5 and their bigger content aggregator/agency contributors such as Reuters, PA Media, etc.   Those contributors appear to have different prices compared to the recent change to 2 tier prices for most contributors including Exclusives.

Perhaps the contracts with the big aggregators also have "customized" search result preferences that they don't want impinged on by allowing same for Exclusives.

There's seemingly a lack of transparency with how different groups of contributors are treated.

My exclusive contents are rarely sold in Pond5. Now I mostly upload editorial clips there.

I am 100% sure that:
1. Pond promotes exclusive authors.
2. The search has a choice of exclusive videos, it is not difficult to guess that the buyer initially looks for a video among the exclusive ones.

I'm not seen any real effort with on-going promotion of Exclusives other than a few mentions on the web site. But I'm a contributor and not on any P5 buyers promotional info, etc. that might advertise it.

It's not clear to me that the bulk of buyers initially choose to look for content only from Exclusives unless it was specifically desired.

Exclusiveness may not have much importance for most buyers over finding the closest match for their desired content's search terms.

I think whats being said is even when they include Exclusives in their general search the search results does not increase Exclusive ranking in those results - Exclusives are just mixed in with all the others.

If P5's search intentionally increases Exclusives general result ranking they would tout it as a benefit.

As far as I remember, that's what pond said when he started this program.
You can't see how they promote exclusive authors, they won't show it.
Some authors actually make a good income on this program, which means that they are promoted and buyers want videos that are not used en masse everywhere. The buyer pays big money for something that is only on pond.

But probably now it is not so simple, and you need to be not only an exclusive participant, but also have unique content, the likes of which are not found on other sites.

But in any case, the buyer can search for videos only among exclusive ones, there is such an option, and he selects videos only among exclusive authors (of which there are not many), and this increases the likelihood of selling the video.

I disagree.

When I asked, that was their answer. It was a brew of angry people in forums when they found out. It's possible they have changed since that time (a few years ago), but if they did they are very quiet about it.  If they wanted to attract more exclusives they would make it a point to publicize.
