Hi all, I saw some video clips on Envato for just $5, the contributor get $5x33%=1.65, is that true ? It's even lower than Fotolia subscription, and it's process is worse, you need to make watermarked preview by yourself. How can they think they will get uploading with this ?

It's crazy when you see the prices Pond5 can get for some clips. I've seen video buyers say that they don't look on cheap sites because they associate it with low quality. Even though the quality on Pond5 can be low, buyers prefer their higher prices. Why don't sites get that? It costs us more to produce footage and less people do it because there's more of a technical barrier. Video clips should sell for more than stills.

Upload your files to reputable sites ... Pond 5 / Revostock / Shutterstock .. anywhere but here

Don't give places like this a chance ... The sooner business models like this disappear the better for everyone
(Except the Illegal Pirate sites who will suddenly notice a massive dip in FREE files if they go)

They are killing the Industry & Sales from legitimate Sites ...

To help protect the market the best thing to do is to withhold your hard work from sites that sell below market value and encourage other shooters to do the same.

everytime we as contributers upload content, whatever it is, to sites that run a business model that is clearly not in the favor of its partners (which is what we really are, and should be considered as such) then we are taking away power from ourselves and the say we have in how, where and for how much our content can be used for.
the industry, as a whole, is where it is today because we made it that way. And from a corporate point of view, the pressure to maintain and or increase profit margin will always come at the expense of us contributers. Until we learn to take action against these things, we are just perpetuating the spiral to the bottom.
