If the guy who recorded video looked through his camera, the pool wasn't in his sight, because we don't see it too. This was important moment of the wedding, and was focused on recording the video. If he even remembered the pool is here, he probably expected of photographer to know that (like everyone else). Also, I doubt the church would allow such a masquerade to be recorded.
Also, it's very unlikely that he risks to make 21 steps backward to fall exactly in the pool instead of hitting his head in something else.

The video looks pretty convincing to me.
I mean, who knows, maybe it's staged, but I guess they would make it more theatrical if it is...with something else falling down.. a bride maybe.

one thing which doesn't convince me is that the photographer is perfectly in the centre of video, hiding the main subject

why doesn't the camera guy try to move a bit and shoot the couple instead of the photographer's back?

He tried putting the video cam between the couple and the photographer but photos looked bad...

My thought looking at it is the video camera was probably mounted on a tripod, set up by one of the guests.  If it was a professional videographer, he or she would have moved out of the way to shoot the Bride and Groom as the photog was totally blocking the shot.  Those of you that shoot weddings know you have to often jockey for position with the videographer to get the best shot.  I always make a point to introduce myself at the beginning and come up with a game plan so we can all get the shots we need.

It doesn't look fake to me for my .02
That's right.
I don't understand people saying he was stupid.Moving backwards, using wide angle lens, getting close and firing on continuous mode are all common in the wedding and photojournalist world. And by the way he act I'm sure he knew where the videographer was.The guy just forgot about the pool.

The video is too wobbly to be on a tripod, looks like a pro camera on a shoulder to me, quite steady but a bit of wobble.  Not the effect I get hand held with image stabilization.  The way it is filmed still looks a bit fake to me.

total nightmare!  it could have been worse, it could have been salt water as in the sea, the crystals totally destroys cameras and lenses, fresh water can actuallquite easily be rinsed away and fixed by a camera repairer.
still though, what a nightmare.

I really wonder how the memory cards made out.
Probably okay. They found got memory cards from cameras involved in the Indonesian tsunami that works after the fact and from salt water.

Many years ago I was sitting on a wharf in LaConner with a big bag of 645 gear photographing passing fishing boats thinking to myself, wow those are big waves. Darn thing washed right over the dock and filled my bag.

Staged? I think not! Unless he has about $4,000.00 to throw away. I have the same lens he has on his hip as seen in my avatar shot. "L" lenses are not cheap!
