Hello,
for the people who can understand some French, a new microstock agency has just opened. We heard about it for months in France, and finally opened.
It's in beta, and only readable in french for now, but you can already do the indexation in English and send files by FTP, the system works with iptc/xmp data, and translation is done by the search engine.
The currency is euro :)

Pixburger belongs an european group: Fotovista (Pixmania, Foci..., 1200 employees, 6 million customers...) and  I am sure they will do it well. Both stock and editorial can be sold.
The website really gives a professionnal feeling and has very interesting features.
Photographer Royalties are 40%. Prices are 1 credit for lowres, 5 for highres, 49 for extended and 99 for one year exclusivity and editorial. This sounds interesting to me.

Why is having a non-English site "unprofessional"? It would only be if they'd go international, but as far as I can see on the site, they are not. The problem would be the search terms since those are in French.

Although French is my second language (English my third and German my fourth, and Flemish-Dutch my first), I'm certainly not going to re-keyword for a French site. So if they would like to launch internationally, they'll first have to find a solution for the keywords and search terms. Not easy without disambiguation.

Looks like they have mostly editorial and news, not your typical stock stuff. I couldn't find the search terms translation but I just had a superficial look. What would they do with English keywords in the IPTC?

Dino, "in french for now" because it's in beta. Fotolia started the same way ;)
Well, it is just the very early phase.

FlemishDreams : "girl", "girls", "fille" and "filles" return the pictures, you can try it !  ???
and you can see that typical stock stuff is something they mostly have.

I just translated some of their pages with Google. They're owned by the Dixons Group who own Currys and PC World in the UK.

They don't rank very highly on Google as yet but it looks like an interesting site. The majority of my sales on Fotolia sell to France and Germany so it may be worth uploading at some point in the future, but for now I think I'll wait and see how they develop.

Did too!

I'll let you know about english or french keywording.

They say in their TOS that their search engine understands your own language (if taken in charge by Pixburger) and english; they even recommend that you use english and your own language.

I'll try english only and for some photos I'll translate keywords, caption and title in french for some others... we'll see

Just uploaded 15 photos; seems that you can describe your photo in english only and their search engine will find your photos.

But you still have to categorize in French...

Anyway, I'm there and we'll see...

In case you want to use it for registration, I propose you my referal number  : 10043.
Have a look here : Pixburger.com, what do you think about that new place ?

Another needle in the hay stack... do they have plans to stick out.?.. being noticed...?..
If not, another looser where almost 70 % will jump on, make sales for the site but little to nothing for the photog/individual.  And then after a year or so another stock sites will be bashed on the forum for not delivering.  Save your self the time and do not join.. simple.

If i really want to make money in no time, i start a stock site, make the best interface, iptc data retreaval on ftp upload, have some naive persons promote me on independant forum, spend a few months on advertising and then go bankrupt, run with the money...

Stop being naive, the stock site are there, not a single new one will and can deliver, compete with the excisiting ones.

Or, another way is to refer a lot, a lot of members/referals in the hope to get something.

Hello Patrick,
I guess you are in a need of friends here.
Thank you for having supposed I was naive, two times. It sometimes sounds like a quality from my point of view. For sure, yours may be quite different.
With such a position, you should be at this time someone exclusive at Istock.

You can stop your illusion regarding the referal thing, I earned about 35 euros in one year from my referals, wooooow! I'm rich !  ;)
Well, i saw we have the same number of referred members at dreamstime, how much did you get yourself ?
Is the refferal thing something we have to be ashamed (or jealous) ?

I thought that the information concerning that new incomer could be interesting for some people.
By the way, we all can have our opinion about stock, but please don't think someone is naive when he thinks different.

Cutting the raw edges off, the bottom line of course is that he is right. No new stock site made it after 2005, and some old glories are even slowly fading away (like CanStockPhoto).

What a waste of time of uploading a full portfolio to Albumo, PhotoSpin, PhotoStorage, GeckoStock, LuckyOliver, FotoMind, and yes... Snapshotvillains (= the new clothes of the emperor).

The only ones that might make it are those with a different business model from MicroStock, like ZYM, MostPhotos, FP and perhaps YAY.

In case one bird gets airborne after all, there is still time enough to join. When Snapshotsvillains fired their Keyblasters and hires programmers instead that can do FTP, I might join.

The fact that none that are launched after 2005 have succeeded, doesn't mean that none will in the future. I agree that few will, but the existing "successes" have enough weaknesses for someone with the right concept and enough money to fight his way through.

The editorial market is one obvious way in, a way that would hit traditional stock where it hurts the most, but it requires knowledge, skills and money. Then there are regional needs and a whole bunch of niches.

A little reminder: As late as 1980, most people still believed that IBM was untouchable in the computing business, and most computers were at least large enough to fill a room. In 1990, hardly anyone had heard about the internet, and fax was considered hi-tech. In 2000, microstock didn't exist, and the price of a photo was several hundred dollars.

Things change, not necessarily to the better, but they do change.

Ok, I submitted my first dozen, but it seems the iptc data is read rather randomly... Some images have a few key words, some none at all, some have descriptions, some not, some titles, some...OK, you got the picture! I uploaded the same batch to yaymicro and all went through well. No way I fill out all their multiple fields by hand at pixburger... SY

Yes Sybille, yaymicro is really the opposite in terms of speed of indexation.
The problems you have on pixburger are strange, or maybe they are working at this moment on this side, I don't konw, but this was not reported by actual users, for what I know. But well, this aspect will be less important if the place becomes a good selling one in the future. Concerning these sites, I consider them just as investment for future, because things are changing and have to ;)

Yep, I think I just stop uploading for a while, but keep my account etc. their background sounds too good to give up to early and yes I agree, yaymicro is a first class example how a new site should go public  ;D SY

PS There is a referral link in my signature if anybody wants to use it...

Hello everybody,
As I created PixBurger, I am obliged to answer THE big question here : why this name ?
Once upon a time, there was a guy looking for a name for it's site. As it was on the Internet, and was planned to be international, it had to have a name that was writable in any language without fault, it had to be also easy to remember and, why not, had to sound "not expensive" and "rapid".
As he was french (the guy), an old tv program passed in his memory "burger quizz", quiet fun program !
He didn't want eather to use the term "photo" or "foto" ... and "burger" means "citizen" in german.
That's it ... PixBurger is born and you remmber the name ;-)
Sincerely
ALain

Ah, Canal+, Alain Chabat... cool en effet ;-)

Bonne chance pour PixBurger, mais la lutte sera dure j'en ai peur.

Sorry for being picky, but Stockxpert started in 2006 and for sure it did "made it" :)

They really are scraping the bottom of the barrel with these names. YayMicro, SnapVillage, PixBurger.

I'm still waiting for SuperExcellentMicroPhotoStocksWebSiteWowBig.com to open up.
