magnum,
for me, the start would be to eliminate the members rating and opinions.
that's so amateurish, and reminds me of that other place ... (no name mentioned).
i deleted all my photos just due to that. i will join them again, as soon as i see
that.

Second that. :)

Reviews and ratings can be a good thing - if they are not taken into account for purchase decision making (search, buyer influence, etc). iStock is a good example.

ah yes Nemo, but istock is different. you don't get ppl with lousy images full of noise making the ratings.
it's a BIG difference getting a comment from someone who is better than you. 8)

Everything you mention above has a chance to be fixed, if you let them know.   Atleast, thats what they say in the newsletter.  Personally I dont have anything to do with making the site.  I just hope they will make it better this time.

Same reasons why I deleted my portfolio from MP, hali I agree with you on both comments.

Hali you nailed it. When micro was new, there was a place for this. It got people excited about submitting and encouraged a new segment of shooters. But now that microstock has validated itself in business, there's just no place for it.

From a buyer's point of view, like when I used to buy on iStock several years ago, I found the ratings and comments, fluffy networks etc very annoying. As a buyer, not something I needed. As a buyer, I needed good photos that fit my criteria both aesthetically and technically that were relatively easy to find based on keywords I provided. Nothing more, nothing less.

If MP truly wants a new generation site, integrate features that will help buyers, not fluff the egos of the photogs. The only thing that matters is sales.

The logo is pretty much crap by the way.

actually i better clarify my opinion with MP.
i like MP very much, exp the forum and the network.
i just don't think the personal rating and comments for the port is necessary.
if we have to communicate, we go to the forum which is the right place for it.

ideally, there should be a opt off on comments and ratings.
then it would truly have a chance to be considered a serious site.
let's stay away from making it into another f....b..k or fl...k...
if you know what i mean, yuck !  ;)

Hey everyone, I'm the project manager at Mostphotos.com.
We just sent out a newsletter (yesterday) with some more information about the new version and we where also asking for members that want to help us beta test the new site.

One of the changes we are making in the new version is a major change to the rating system. We have heard your complaints about it but we also have a lot of members that really like it. So we decided to compromise a bit.
We will be removing the 1-10 ratings and replacing it with a simple "I like it"-button. So if you see something you like and you want to complement the photographer, simply click the button and if you don't like it you can just continue to another photo.

We have also made some really huge improvements to the Mostphotos index by adding somewhere around 50 new variables. We will for example take resolution, noise and correct tagging in to account when ranking photos. We will also add the option to opt out of comments on all your photos or just some and a feature that just lets your friends leave comments.

We are always looking for ways to improve the site so please, if you have any suggestions please send me an email (micke [a] mostphotos.com or get in touch with me in some other way.

I really hope all of you will like the new version of the site and that you at least give us a chance  :).

Hi micke, what's going to happen to the thousands of images already accepted by MP with noice, out of focus etc. are they going to be re-reviewed? ;)

We will still be accepting all images and our index scripts will go trough all existing images and apply the correct index based on the new variables and the same goes if we add or change the variables in the future.
The goal is to give everyone a chance but we still need to present the buyer with the best possible picture that matches their search terms

I've just joined recently - and hoping to make some of those good sales I see everyone writing about.
I have to say - I LOVE the site. Uploading is super simple. The AJAX implementation works particularly well for me :)
