Just got an email from istock to say that one of my images has been put into the executive queue for review.. (For review of copyright etc)

Not sure if I should be flattered or not. :-)

FYI, this is the image:

Yeah, I had one of mine go in there as well for copyright concerns. Get comfortable because it took almost 2 months for them to finally accept my image.

I figured it would be a long wait, the last query I had with them over a rejection took 5 weeks.

Never to mind, I can't imagine it'll be a hot seller anyway, just thought it was interesting...

they will deny your image in the worst case. or was that what you were asking??

i was worried that they would suspend my account, but i agree with you that they will deny my image in the worst case.

no no they won't suspend your account.

It went to the exec. queue because the reviewer wasn't sure if it was a copyright violation or not.

If it HAD been FOR SURE a copyright violation they would just reject the image saying that what you took a picture of is copyright. This has happened to me numerous times when i forget to clone out a brand name, or thought I could take a picture of something (like a figurine) when I couldn't

this sculpture is more than 2000 years old... do you think it is copyrighted? I really don't understand copyright laws in some cases.

yeah it gets rather confusing. the gallery or building where this statue is, probably owns the statue, which might make it copyright... but i am a bit confused myself... :S epsecially when it comes to statues and things.

I once read about a judicial case regarding artwork in a museum. In summary, if I remember it right, the article said that as long as it's not a mere photo of the art piece (that is, that you use some creative angle, for instance), the photographer has rights on the produced image. A photographic reproduction of the artwork, like it seems to be the case here, does not entitle rights to the photographer. I believe that in this case you have to ask the owner (person or institution) to approve its use.

yeah i agree with you madelaide but that is only for items still under copyright. I could take a perfect photo of the mona lisa and sell it as a poster or print with no problems, which is why people do it. I could not however take a picture of a new piece of art and sell it, unless of course I have altered the photograph in a significant manner to make the art 'mine'.

I wonder though if there is different rules for stock photography. I think there is.

I have just had one rejected from the executive que. The best thing about the email is they accepted other images contained this copywrite scupture (mine was the most abstract though it did have the name in the title) and said they are looking into it. i will check in 2 weeks time (if I remember and if they haven't removed the others, i will email in a complaint. All I want is consistancy.

snem - My guess is they will reject yours. Dispite the fact any copywrite period would have ended
Chellyar - will probably reject yours too. Is it anything famous? or just a generic toy?
