Author Topic: Did IE 8 Break istock? (Read 10021 times)

I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 (under Vista) and now can't access istock. It won't let me navigate from the login page to anywhere else. Everything still works fine under Mozilla but I can't switch because I have other sites I need to work on that work with IE that don't work with Mozilla.

Anyone else having this problem?

For me it's intermittent which is quite puzzling. Last week every time I would press a button I would be taken back to log-in, but as of this weekend it is working normally. I had to manually remove a virus recently, and in the process I changed all my security settings and had to set the pop-up blocker back to medium or IS, SS wouldn't work after logged in.

Guys...why don't you use FIrefox? It's much safer and faster that IE

Because many many people work in offices - like my own - that have worldwide licesnses for Microsoft and nobody is permitted to add or remove programs or software onto computers owned by the company ... people always offer that as a solution but it is simply not a solution for all of those people working in large companies on computers that do not belong to them.

Off-topic, but my company is following the federal government policy's and started adopting Firefox as the default browser. There are rumors we will be adopting Open Office as wellsome time in the future, but I am not a big fan of this proposal - we have too many customized applications in Word and Excel and I am not confident they will work in OO. Basic text and spreadsheets are imported nicely, but I am not so sure about VBA.

Switching is not really an option. I have other sites that I need to access that don't work well with Firefox.

Right now I'm using two browsers and that's a pain.

I'm using Firefox for pretty much anything and luckily we are allowed to install software on our work computers as well. For those very few sites that do not work with Firefox, there is a Firefox add on which is called IE View. With it, one can specify which particular sites to open as an IE tab within Firefox. So - no reason for me to use anything else. Maybe it's just me, but I feel much safer browsing with Firefox.

Just upgraded to IE8 Vista last night and I'm having the same problem with IS. All the other sites are working fine. Sending ticket to Support.

Well clearing temp files didn't work but clearing cookies did. Which is always a major pain. So if you can access and delete your temp files and cookies you might try that.

WOW! That's huge news. I've been with FireFox since before it was FireFox. Love it -- Hate IE.

Having said that... IE has been moving more towards FireFox, or towards a web standard complaint browser I should say, and I've heard that ie8 is supposed to be "nearly there". I haven't installed it, thought, because as a web developer I need to make sure my pages work well in Microsoft's non-compliant browsers, which means I still need ie7 (and ie6 for that matter) to check my work. And since Microsoft won't allow you to have more than one version of ie on a computer at the same time, I'll stick with 7 until enough people make the shift, and more people quit using 6 (I have 7 on my primary computer and 6 on an old laptop I drag out simply to check pages).

The short of this is from what I've read, it is unlikely that ie8 is going to break any reasonable designed web page. Of course, we've heard that before.

It's possible to run firefox using a jump drive. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
It doesn't install anything after it's setup on the jump drive.

I use IE8 with XP with no problem.
Did you turn on IE8's Compatability mode for iStock? It's the little icon next to the
address bar or you can select it on the Tools menu. When you turn it on the
page will reload. I would think if it doesn't work in Vista that it would be a Vista
problem and not an IE8 problem. It works for most sites.

I did try compatibility mode. It didn't help with istock although it did help with some others.

I'll try the cookie and temp file clearing and see if that helps.

I also have the IE 8 problem (haven't tried any of the fixes, I'm just using Firefox til IS gets it fixed).

What I'm wondering is: Is the problem preventing buyers from logging in?

My sales at IS were way down yesterday. Ebb and flow or the IE 8 problem?

I use SpySweeper from Webroot, which stays memory resident. I also use McAfee for virus protection. Between the two, it has been a long time since I have had any kind of problem. When it comes to spyware and adware, go with Spysweeper. The free programs just don't do enough, and you get what you pay for.

I have seen the login problem a couple times and thought I had
done something wrong. One thing I've noticed about IE8 on other
sites is it takes a long time to load all the site references, and if
you click on something too early, it sometimes won't work.
Try giving IE8 longer before clicking and see if that helps. It's
worth a try.

I use SpySweeper too. It's what, $30? Well worth it IMO. I have it set to do a complete sweep once a week and it always finds some sort of adware or other junk to get rid of.

I use AVG free though for virus protection. It's the only one I haven't had issues with. McAfee and Norton both caused problems for me in older versions. Haven't tried either in a few years but AVG works fine so why switch?

Even its unlikely that ie8 is going to break any reasonable designed web page they should be the choice it to make in istock.
