I have just taken images of the beautiful wildflowers that are growing right now and wondered when to upload these images. What about typical summer photos of ice cream etc. When do you upload these photos? After you have taken them ? Is it better to keep them in a folder and upload them in January for the next summer season? That way they will turn up under NEW in SS. When do I upload typical winter themed photos? 6 months before Christmas or when is the best time? My new images sell once on SS and then they seem to get lost in the sea of all the millions of images.

This answers your question. The old wisdom was maybe 4-6 months before you think they might be used, but nowadays I doubt it makes much difference. Wildflower images aren't likely to sell much anyway - out of curiosity I just did a search at SS on the keyword "wildflower" and it turned up more than 186,000 hits. I did sell a wildflower image myself this week but it was uploaded long ago (and has made me a dollar or two if that). Good luck!

Think of stock photography like throwing mud on the wall...

Mud on the wall.....that made me laugh. But it seems to be true. I threw some flowers, some sticked, some didn't.

Think I would only worry about xmas and easter which I would put up about three months before. I've put quite a few flower shots up cos I like doing them and to be honest I've done better with them than I really expected. Don't think any one really knows what will sell and when.

Always upload as fast as you can. Nobody ever sold a file that was on the computer waiting for another day. Can't sell something that's not in the search for sale, can I.
