May was my 6th month in microstock photography and the second month with dropping down earnings despite of the growing porftolio. Only IS showed some growth.

IS+SS = 80%

SS 61,78%
StockXpert 15,63%
IS 6,34%
FT 5,1%
123RF 5%
DT 4,62%
BigStock 1,54%

BME on all sites with a total increase of 48%!

Notes:
- considering to stop uploading to BigStock, just not worth my time
- IS is starting to really sell my stuff, almost everyday a vector sale
- less downloads on SS but higher earnings because of the raise

May Earnings $314.01.  This was down 8% from April's BME.  A very good month nonetheless.

The Breakdown
Shutterstock 51%  BME
iStock 21%
Dreamstime 11%
Fotolia 6%
BigStockPhoto 5%
123RF 4%  BME
Stockxpert 2%

All sites were down with the exceptions of Shutterstock and 123RF, each of which set BME's.  Shutterstock hit records for downloads and earnings.

Fotolia collapsed 48%.  Bigstock dropped 30%.  iStock was down 25%.  Stockxpert basically continued to drope along in the cellar, with their usual contribution of a few crappy sub sales here and there.

Ups and downs compared to May 2007

Total sales - up 22%  BME
SS 38% - up 7%  BME
IS 18% - up 51%  BME
FT 17% - up 238%  BME
DT 13% - down 8%
StockXpert 4% - down 18%
BS 4% - up 67%

The big winners are IS and FT, the two who haven't had subs until now. Now they will both have it. I don't like it   >:(

May wasn't as good as April, mostly due to no EL sales...  Not sure why I still upload to some agencies--perhaps my glasses still have some rose coloring in them...

The breakdown:

IS    35.31% BME
SS    23.54%
DT     9.74%
123RF  7.79% BME
BigStock    7.44% BME
StockXpert    7.13%
FT     4.91%
CS     2.33% BME
SR     0.62% BME
CanStockPhoto    0.62% BME
SV     0.56% BME
MP     0.00%
FP     0.00%

SR     0.62% BME
CanStockPhoto    0.62% BME
SV     0.56% BME

I think we should make a new rule - if the site generates less than 1% of your income, it doesn't qualify for  the BME tag. Unless you're Yuri or iofoto, less than 1% of your income is essentially irrelevant, however much it's grown :)

I remember once when Lucky Oliver made me 60 cents for a BME, breaking a previous BME of 30 cents.  Oh, those were the good ole days...

ShutterStock   40.5%
IstockPhoto     31.0%
StockXpert      12.3%
Fotolia               5.6%
Dreamstime       5.2%
123rf                 4.1%
Bigstockphoto   1.4%

My second full month. Shutterstock is down by about 6% (less uploads thou), fotolia down by 30%, Dreamstime down by 15%. Downtrend on these is offset by +50% on istockphoto and pretty good first month on stockxpert

Overall all I'm 26% higher than in April, but I started mid March so it's not that indicative.

My May and 2008 numbers, with 200 for comparison:

Site 2007 2008 Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
IS 26% 27% 22% 37% 26% 26% 23%
DT 16% 20% 30% 16% 18% 22% 14%
StockXpert 20% 19% 19% 12% 22% 21% 24%
FT 13% 12% 8% 11% 16% 13% 13%
BigStock 8% 6% 8% 5% 5% 3% 7%
123 4% 6% 5% 8% 3% 4% 8%
FP 3% 4% 2% 3% 4% 10% 3%
CanStockPhoto 2% 1% 1% 1% 1% <1% <1%
LO 2% 1% 3% 1% 2% 0% 1%
Scan 1% <1% 0% <1% 1% <1% 1%
CS <1% ~0% 0% 0% 0% ~0% 1%
Zymm<1% 2% 3% 5% 2% 0% 3%
rest 4% <1% 3% 1% <1% ~0% 0%

Overall the same as April, which was not a very good month, 30% below February, which was my BME.

A small decrease in IS, a significant decrease in DT with too many subs (40% of my dlds), an increase in StockXpert (despite having opted-out from subs in April). A very stable month in FT.  Increase also in 123RF (2nd BME) and BigStock resumed its previous performance, although these two are reasonable behind the other four.

FP's performance was not quite exciting, getting the same as Zymm. Two sales in CanStockPhoto (both subs) - this site is performing worse each month for me - slow also in CS (a bit better than previous months, but ... subs...), steady in Scan.  Two sales at LO's death.

Regards,
Adelaide
