People are still in denial, thinking that social media is a medium for their teenage kids, those with assorted pierced body parts, those who work at startups or play in rock bands. I still talk to people who insist that "it's not our demographic, or "this isn't for us," or "we're not interested." But it is your demographic and it is for you. It's free, it's fun and you should be interested because it builds relationships, which is how you grow your business. There's another important intangible benefit; it shows that you get it.

I'm not really in denial, I realise how an important marketing tool Facebook can be, but that does not mean I like it, or that I like spending time on Facebook for marketing purposes.  Outsourcing however I would not do, except for the technical part maybe, like designing a fan page.  The updating with fresh news every week has to be done by the photographer.

I hate people that speak in absolutes. They have such in depth, intimate knowledge of me that they can say without doubt or hesitation that "this is for you!!"

Very open minded to assert that because you feel a certain way everyone else MUST ALSO FEEL THIS WAY. Anyone who doesn't is in denial and their reasoning is invalid.

Nice.

I don't understand your poll questions ... no (no button) 1, 2 or 3.
Is that: 1= No, I wouldn't outsource social media
2 = No, I'd sooner pull out my hair than use social media
3 = No, I'll kill (or at least, 'ignore') anyone who even mentions Social Media.

But I read a couple of months back that saying, "What's the point of Twitter" is a dead giveaway about your age. Well, that's my age and that's my mantra.
I've just started on Flickr (for fun), and if I could see some point/benefit for me in Facebook, I'd do it, but I wouldn't outsource it any more than I'd outsource my personal website.

As far as stock goes, no, there isn't much use for social media.

And for 90% of other things, it's really just a time waster.  IMO.

Outsource?  No.  Social Media - isn't that what this site is about or am I missing something?

My company has a page on Facebook.  My company has an account on Twitter.  Recently, I've discovered Google+ and I've found that there is a huge community of Photographers there - everyone from Chase Jarvis to Zack Arias to Scott Kelby.

Guys, pretty sure this is a spam post.

New user, registered today, starts 2 topics on social media, link in their profile to a social media company, no other forum activity...

I agree on both counts.  Selling through agencies doesn't require the kind of promotion you would get on Facebook.

When I get serious about promoting my personal website I will probably have to bite the bullet and open a FB account to promote myself and my work.

But I have been procrastinating this as long as possible, because the internet already eats enough of my time without adding FB to the mix.

I am definitely one who "doesn't get it".

Ins't it really silly: in the Good Old Days all you needed was a website and some SEO skills.
That said, I was talking last week to a woman who runs a local charitable trust. She said that one of her volunteers insisted they 'just had to be on Facebook' and set it all up for them and months later, they have about 15 'fans' or 'followers' or whatever it is, and they know all the 15 personally - they all visit their website anyway. So for them, pointless, but a volunteer is doing it in his own time, so not a drain on their time.

No they're not.

I am.  Or maybe I'm in denial about being in denial.

Just the place I was headed. I'll take some time to think about it. Procrastination has it's own rewards.

Anyone want to dump this thread into the bucket, or are we having too much fun?  ???

We should dump it in favor of a non-spammy thread on the subject.

I think a discussion on social media as it relates to microstock is a good topic. I just don't want to support a spammer, as it appears the O.P has no intention of discussing anything and would rather just post topics that relate to their non-microstock business.

You can hardly have a lot of faith in someone who can't even construct a meaningful poll, or at least change it when the problems are pointed out.
So, yea, "too much fun".

I don't think he's interested in the poll, just getting enough posts up to be able to insert the links in his signature to SEO the site that's linked to his profile.
