and what if Pinterest starts offering printing services ? with each photo they can pretty well make something like RedBubble if they wanted and make billions, all without giving a crap about copyright.

Unless I'm making money from this, bring on the lawsuits. Is this the same company or a copycat offshoot?

Yesterday I got an email from Bigstock:
"We've teamed up with our friends at printed.com and Pinterest for a sweet Easter contest"
http://www.printed.com/competitions/easter-printed-2012

Pinterest has joined the other file sharing pirates who are using the 'safe harbor' loophole in the DMCA to steal our images, make a profit from them, and give us nothing.
Meanwhile, in other news today, I guess if you have enough friends in high places you can get away with anything. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/social-media/9170718/Barack-Obama-signs-up-to-Pinterest.html

Should we protest Bigstock helping Printerest to rob us?

Bigstock's having a contest where people can submit whatever image they want just as long as they write where they think-know-guess it came from?

Well, what could POSSIBLY go wrong with such a fail-safe approach to protecting copyright holders rights!

Perhaps I overlooked a section where Bigstock explains they will not use/display/print any image submitted by someone other than its owner unless Bigstock first licenses the appropriate usage from owner.

FWIW, if any stock company I'm involved with enters into a relationship with any company-group-vegetable-mineral where image owners don't have proper role, I'm gone.  It wouldn't be the first time I left an agency with unacceptable practices.

I also found it odd to see support for file sharing.

Out of curiosity, I just looked at the Pinterest site and checked the FAQ.  This may be of interest to people who have their ports on their own site.  It's not that much help, I know - but it least it's a small amount of control.

"What if I don't want images from my site to be pinned?

We have a small piece of code you can add to the head of any page on your site:

<meta name="pinterest" content="nopin" />

When a user tries to pin from your site, they will see this message:

"This site doesn't allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!""

ETA:  I see now that Mantonino already posted this on page 1 of this thread (oops!)

I'll leave this here though, in case anyone missed it the first time.

How do I know that these are third-party companies? I don't.

google is our friend ;) http://www.dailydot.com/business/print-erest-printerest-pinterest-response/

also you can do a whois on the domain name: http://whois.domaintools.com/print-erest.com
it's unusual for a "big" company like Pinterest to have a domain name registered on Godaddy without any extra contact info (pinterest whois http://whois.domaintools.com/pinterest.com)
