It's funny... I'm thinking (& in a way, seems quite possible it could come this way)...

Videoblocks/Storyblocks has gone from...

- 100% Commissions to Authors!
- We buy your good clips, so you have crap left to sell, but still get 100%
- 50% Commission to Authors!
- $0.00000000001/clip Commission to Authors, but you get LOTS of it!

To............. next step/e-mail probably will be something like this:

"Hey Authors!

Why not give away your clips for FREE, and YOU get TONS OF EXPOSURE!!! JUST THINK - PEOPLE WILL THEN KNOW WHO YOU ARE, BECAUSE OF ALL THE MASSIVE EXPOSURE YOU GOT, WHICH MEANS YOU COULD GET SALES IN THE FUTURE!

We'll keep all the money from our subscriptions and value you add to our subscription model - because of course we have to eat, pay for fuel for our lambourghini's & mcclarens, which hopefully you understand costs money - but you'll get... EXPOSURE!!! JUST give your clips for free... Freee... FREEEEEEEEEE!!! Think of the POSSIBILITIES! And we've done the math, and its best for you - so anticipated your response - we've already made your clips available for FREE!!! If you want to opt-out, there is a 90-day new waiting period, and you can only remove 10% of your portfolio at a time... oh, and our script for removing stuff is broken, because there is a coding error, don't know why... so strange, we'll get it fixed, might take 3-4 years, but we'll give your clips FREE in the meantime, that's why we need the money... but FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! AND EXPOSURE FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!! SUCH A GREAT GRAND DEAL AIN'T IT?!?!?"

- The StoryBlocks Team - now making $50 million/year to the owner + a handful of employees because this is a digital business, but helping YOU get EXPOSURE!!!!!!!! Because WE know what's BEST for YOU!

If we are considering their creativeness from the start... they are going to that direction - downloads for `likes`, maybe followers (subscribed to MS)...

Still a newbie but if I got it right, year by year it wasn't commisions that went down
but also words as "Authorts, Contributors, Creators, Portfolios" until a new master word appeard
"Libraries".
Yup, a library is faceless don't ask anything but growth and is much cheaper to own and deal with.

what payment? Are they handing everyone a bonus? Will the marketplace still exist with the new membership program?

Not since May, but I'm sure some people are. Now I'm receiving payments from the exciting new Member Library Program! It's a new opportunity for me to make as much money as possible from my content! Did you know that contributors are making more money and Storyblocks' customers are gaining access to great content?!

I hope you're joking. The P5 membership works well and I'm sure it's probably several times better than the SB membership will ever be. You seem to love selling as low as possible

Early days, so hard to say for certain, but I'm on track to earn roughly $1.50 per clip this month. I have 340 items.

Spacestock : I really wonder about your sale strategy. You produce very sellable content. My clip average 25$ return per sale. Obviously you sell more if you participate in subs but I still have doubts that you are making more being in SB and Envato subs scheme(don't know if you supply to Getty/Istock too) than to stay with the pay per download options (Videohive Shutter P5 Adobe and Storyblocks).

Is it always difficult to predict and subs seem to work when there are not many players in the market. This is what made Shutter photographers happy back then where there were not millions of files added to the library per week. Even at that time I decided to stay exclusive with Istock when there were no subs there. I was making 12-13k month with 3000 images (no model at that time). Situation has changed alot but in the subs game contributor always loses at the end even if at the start it seems a viable option.

Video sales are very far away in volume than those of images so a return of pennies (Getty) or fractions of a dollar is not going to make it up in volume.

In any case good luck with your path. Your content deserves to make a healthy income.

I sit on both sides of the fence here. I've not joined the storyblocks members program but kinda understand SpaceStocks thinking. All my conetent is on Getty and although the big sales are drying up the smaller (partner program) sales still add up each month and that alone pays the mortgage and bills.
I haven't seen any conflict of sales between the agencies with my content on Getty. Shutterstock / Adobe / Resolve / Pond - all have extremely consistent monthly sales. I could tell you how much I make within $100 each month. Scarily consistent which makes me want to ask other conspiracy questions :)

So I think there is a need and place for a members collection, and sales can be pretty good. I personally don't think buyers shop around as that's not what I've found.
I can see some agencies could be taking the piss though and I'll need to look into Storyblocks members program more before making a choice.

Interesting that the month isn't yet over and you seem to already have data on what your earning. That seems very strange. You shouldn't know that info until the middle of the following month. I'm dubious and I think $1.5 is dream-on scenario. You have a unique niche and premium content that could be licensed as such yet you seem to preoccupied with selling to the bottom feeders

Yes, it's super strange that Storyblocks, Motion Array (possibly others) and now Elements... are all able to provide estimated earnings throughout the month. What crazy sorcery is this?!

(Just to clarify... it doesn't start at $290 at the beginning of the month and fluctuate up or down slightly depending on downloads... it starts at $0 and gradually increases throughout the month. Same with the Elements and Motion Array reports. So as we've completed just over 17 days of the month, I'm currently at $290, there's 31 days in the month, and I have 340 items... that's where I'm getting the $1.50 per month, per item from. It may be more or less than that, and it may be considerably less than that as time goes on... we'll see... but my estimated earnings last month were less than $3 off the actual earnings.)

However, I do love it how people who are strongly against the subscription model have been presented with information that goes against their preconceptions, so as a result... that means it's 'strange', I may be out by a factor of ten, I'm dreaming etc etc! I'm not preoccupied with selling to the bottom feeders... I'm preoccupied with selling to the top feeders, the middle feeders AND the bottom feeders.
