I've just sent an email to ImageVortex asking for an explanation.  I got a batch of rejects from another site because my IPTC data contained references to ImageVortex.  Now that was news to me and I was about to take the site to task until I checked my source jpg's, on my PC, and lo and behold, in the "Instructions" metadata field was a bunch of html from ImageVortex - on literally hundreds of images.  I did use their upload tool in the past so I guess it has actually written something into the file to make uploading easier, but I can't say I'm very happy about it.  Anyone else noticed this or even thought to check?  Should I be this surprised and p'd off?  Or am I just stoopid!?

Now you had me worried, but I can't find the "Instructions" field. How do you see it?

Just an idea.  Have you ever dld'ed an image of yours from IV, something you may have lost or may have dld'ed just to try it (I don't even know this is possible), and then maybe used this file to seed new IPTC data?

I have checked some files submitted to IV in the past (I haven't lately)and I couldn't find anything abnormal in them). I also didn't find the "Instructions" field.

Adelaide

I found the Instructions field. It's under IPTC Status. But there's nothing there on images that I've submitted ti IV, at least not the batch that I submitted last week.

It would also be totally unacceptable if IV had software that could write IPTC in files that I have on my computer.

Extract from email received back from IV - seems early versions of their upload software did do this but new versions do not.  It seems to have affected over 200 of my jpg's which I have had to "clean"

"Thank you for your inquiry. An initial edition of our Image Manager batch
uploading software has been using IPTC Instruction field in order to store
the information you enter in the mentioned Image Manager software. This
usage complies with the general designation of the IPTC Instructions field
as per IPTC specifications. The only purpose of this storage has been to
make Image Manager submit the image information that you enter with the
image itself, thus speeding up the submission process and avoiding
incomplete submissions.

But despite the idea looked good in the beginning, we received a number of
messages from our users who expressed their concerns regarding this policy,
and in reaction to that, Image Manager has been modified to keep the image
data inside a separate data file. Since that update, Image Manager is not
touching IPTC Instructions field. If you would like to update your version
to the latest release, please feel free to download the new installation
package:

newbielink:http://www.imagevortex.com/downloads/image_manager/imsetup.exe [nonactive]

You do not need to uninstall a previous version before installing this one,
it will update automatically (please just make sure to close Image Manager
before starting the installation).

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by storing user-entered
information in the IPTC fields. Should you have any further questions,
please don't hesitate to let us know. "

So that's alright then  >:(  Not

I didn't even know they had something to upload images.

After a reasonable sale last month, I should resume uploading to them.  Are you guys seeing some improvement in sales there also?

Adelaide

Same happened to me, it was quite embarrasing to get an email from FeaturePics asking politily that I submit only files without reference to other sites. Never followed it up, thanks for the link to the new uploader, highly appreciated. SY
