Hi folks, I'm new to this site and thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. For a few month ago Yuri Arcurs wrote this announcement about going eksclusive on istock. In the same article he wrote about phone photography in the microstock industry. Unfortunately hes website is down for som reason?!!

Do you know anything about witch type of phone he is talking about? I'm a graphic designer and I could really use a small an uncomplicated camera for taking photos for my graphics that's good enough in quality for microstock. I have a nikon D200 but I never learned to use it. It's too technical complicated for me and I find that my main focus should be in the graphics.

He ~~lied~~ was economical with the truth about being exclusive with iStock.
What makes you think he's a trustworthy/reliable source of information?

Most any new phone would be fine for taking pictures.

Tlara: The article from Yuri was about phone photos in general, and stumping his agency that will sell them. Any good camera-phone that produces a clear, moderately good image.

You don't need a Nokia Lumia 1020 41MP. But if you start looking at quality and prices, without a contract, you'll probably find $400 - $600 is about what a decent phone will cost. Too high for my tastes.

Two features I'd say you want on the phone are, Micro SD slot for additional external memory and user replaceable battery.

Otherwise, details aside, Sean's answer covers it completely. Almost any new phone.

Yeah, for FB pics

I do see the cell phones wiping out the low end digital cameras in the near future but not the middle to upper level dSLRs.

Yeah, but the OP is a graphic designer, likely looking for some quick snaps of things to fill in holes while they are comping together a piece or something. They aren't shooting fighter jets

Whatever, I would love to be able to shoot a fighter jet, with a 40k cam and 100k lights, driving my SUV. It would be a dream come true.

Even if you shoot with a phone, you'd still need the technical skill, the experience, the subject matter and the lighting to have a good result. I take tons of shots with my iPhone that are complete [email protected] I'm not a photographer. (Photography was the only course I failed in college.)

Images taken with the Iphone and Galaxy phones are about the best out there and are and have been being accepted at SS and elsewhere and that new Nokia phone isn't too bad either.

if i got 40k plus 100k, I wont spend a piece of those to buy any equipments to show off , i will go to travel around the world rather than shot fighter jets, i would like to live in peace

I'm disturbed by the way they say things like "Scoopshot has permanent rights for transferring the copyright of the photo or video. I don't think they mean that they are actually transferring the copyright since they then seem to be talking about licensing the right to publish the photo to several buyers, but assuming they are not actually transferring the copyright, it shows a woeful misunderstanding IMHO of how it all works.

I've licensed a fair number of iPhone 4S photos on Dreamstime, a few of them have sold multiple times, but it's not a huge market. Nice to make sellable photos though when I'm out and don't have one of my regular cameras with me. Have some uploaded to Alamy News too, though no iPhone sales there yet. All the new smartphones seem to have good cameras.

Spot on! Thank you. I would really really love an easy going camera for objects to fit in to my graphics. Could a Nokia Lumia 1020 be good enough for this? Or should I find a smaller camera then my Nikon D200? I just don't feel creative and comfortable with such a technical product.

And all of you.. thank you for responding! I'm surprised that Yuri would tell a lie to promote hes website. So he's still on SS, Fotolia and so on?

I think he as millions, thats why he does it all, shooting jets, and travel around the world.

yep. most camera phones are getting good. I am totally happy with the iPhone 5. The Nokia Lumina seems like a very nice phone camera as well.
