I got an request from 123RF to sell the rights on one of my vectors. Did anyone here do that? I am confused regarding the price. The illustration contains an element that involves in 9 other illustrations as well. So they want me to give a price on all those 9 and also on that particular one illustration.

Question is, how much should i charge? :) Its rly difficult, i am afraid to put too high, and too low :) Is there anything like normal here? :)

I'd ask for about that amount that I probably would earn within the next two or three years with those illustrations

Depends on the image, what it's worth to you, what you expect it would have earned you over the next few years, how much time you put into it, how much time it will take to get it removed from all of the agencies and follow up on the deletion requests, etc.

I've had 2 buyouts this year, and one inquiry that didn't turn into a deal. The 2 images I sold went for $3k each. They were both good sellers, images that I expected to do well for me. The one that didn't sell, I asked for $2,600 and was rudely turned down (buyer only wanted to pay a few hundred I think). I sold one image last year, also for $3k. I asked $3,600 and settled on $3,000. Think I need to start kicking things off in the $4k range and work down from there.

I think this is something that you have to stick to your guns on. Years ago I let an image go for $800 and still regret it. I know that image would have made me more than $800 by now. It's just hard to stick to what you know you want when a lot of would-be buyers see us selling images for $10 and then can't believe that we want thousands for a buy-out. Some of them understand after I explain to them how I arrive at the prices I charge. Others just still don't get it.

Like the last person I dealt with. They didn't understand why I wouldn't help them out and charge a "fair" price. To some people I guess "fair" means that I have to take a beating on the deal so that they can get a bargain.

EmberMIke posted some great stuff there...

If they want you to take all the nine illustrations, I think they are serious about exclusivity.

I was wondering if the buyout will give them unlimited print run and unlimited electronic rights in addition to the exclusivity. If that was the case, If you added the price of all the extended licenses, you would come up with a number, then I would think of a number for the exclusivity on top of that. I think exclusivity "in perpetual" is worth much more than anything else.
Sadly, a lot of buyers coming from micro stock don't understand, but sometimes you get an art director, or a big company that don't mind paying what is worth.

I don't know what their buyer's expectations are....123 has an exclusive logo collection, but the graphics seem pretty iconic,  a single logo image is 250 credits...

so, this is just food for thought.

Sometimes you go to low and regret, other times you go to high and lose the sale...

I think you could make some good money since they want to buyout a lot of graphics.....

Yeah, I'd take the amount that I've earned from the nine illustrations over the past two years, and go with that figure as a minimum. You can always extrapolate if they've not been on the market for two years. Maybe start at three years so there's room to manoeuvre if they want to negotiate. I probably wouldn't go over five years earnings, that would be pushing it a bit.

Asking for $1K+ per image is great and all, but if you're making $5 a month per image... then you may as well go for something they're a bit more likely to accept.
