According to Alexa.com and compete.com, IS is #1 in traffic rankings, almost more than the total of the rest of the crew. Although it's known that IS is the market leader, I think SS's position is something unexpected here. If you ask multistock members, most of them will say that they sell more images on SS than any other microstock site (ie. number of DLs, not the income). So, why it doesn't have any impact on SS's traffic? It's sometimes not even #2 in traffic rankings.

If you think that the number of sales at IS increase in time and surpass SS, what is your estimate of the treshold (in terms of number of DLs at IS)?

I am not very knowledgeable on such calculations  but I guess they are based on visit of a site per individual, which I think explains a lot especially when you think SS is a subscription site thus same people must be buying the photos this must be because why some (or many)of us sell more on SS than IS despite lower traffic of SS then IS

I don't understand your question.

I mean, SS is a "feed the beast" site and even photographers with big portfolios may hit some wall, in terms of increase in their sales in years. On the other hand your sales on IS continues to grow (again, if you keep sending, but IS is not so much "feed the beast"). There are even some top sellers at IS who reached 100,000 DLs per year.

i would guess that SS has fewer customers than the other sites, but each customer downloads many more photos than the average Istock or dreamstime buyer.

Additionaly Istock has built a strong community on it's site which would account for tons of it's traffic.... so lots of people looking around, talking on the forum and different things, not neccesarily buying.  On shutterstock it is mostly buyers and a few people on the forums or checking their stats... nothing to the extent of istock.

I began to earn more at IS than SS when my IS portfolio reached about 1/4 of my SS portfolio size. I make about 10% more on IS than SS these days - a number that's only slowly increasing despite my hard effort.

well you do have a point there sharply.

Istock is my second earning but I have 1/6 of the images on there than i do on the rest of the sites.... that probably isn't too far off from other peoples numbers either.

Same here.  My IS $ sales have surpassed my earnings at SS. However in pure quantity of pix sold, it's still SS.  Too, my  folio on IS is much smaller than that on SS.  My rejection rate is about equal on both, but I am much more selective about what I send to IS.

...and I'm a long, long way from 100K downloads a year.... Looooooog way. Fact is that will never happen in my lifetime.  8)=tom

I'm only talking about number of DLs, not the earnings. Let's say that less buyers buy more pics on SS. Even the page views are higher on IS.

I don't totally trust the accuracy of the web statistic providers, or the relevancy of what it is they are measuring.  If anything, I think it would be more useful to look at trends at the individual sites rather than trying to make absolute comparisons.  With that in mind, Compete shows SS traffic taking a big dive, while DT continues to grow.

Gotcha, Volk65...  I still get more DL's on SS.... but the way IS has been for me lately.....  I'm sure that when I get the same 'folio (size) on IS that I have on SS...   I may see as many or more DL's on IS.   It's pretty close now.  I know a lot of folks are crying the blues over IS... but... as least for now, I'm not complaining.  If that holds or not, only the future will tell...  8)=tom
