Hi,

I read severeal times that the first seven keywords at fotolia are more important.
But I just tryed to search my images with keywords from the end of the keywordlist of these images. I found my images even with VERY good results.
so my question is: is it true that the first seven keywords are more importent?
do you  order the more important keywords to the top of the keywordlist at FT?
I just viewed some keywordlists at FT, and usually the words are in alphabetical order. does fotolia order the words alphabetical? or is this a result of the keywordingsoftware you use?
me for example... is use iTag for keywording... and iTag made automatical an alphabetical order the keywords. I never change this... so at FT (and other sites) simply the words starting with "a..." or "b..." are at the top of the keyword list.

oh, sorry for the spelling mistakes even in the titel....  ;)

According to Peter/Chode, the search engine no longer looks at just the first 7 keywords.  I haven't tried to search for my images there in a long time to prove or disprove.  But based on what you found, I think it is safe to say "the first 7" is no longer of utmost importance.

FT search engine is the most changeable among them all and it is impossible to guess what'd happen next. And every change they make upset some while make others happy.for the time being I am not extremely happy with how it  works as I noticed significant slowdown of my sales and my images  that are selling ,mostly my exclusive files, which are smaller in numbers in my folio.

you never know what will happen next :-\

I dont agree, I put a lot of time in past to sort my keywords, and optimize search chances, but now all that work is wasted.

But anyway, sales are OK, so I dont complain. They seems to change search engine rules every few months.

Fotolia, PLEASE DO NOT make any more changes to search engine! This setup (from 1st september 2008) works very well! :)

Surprisingly I am also doing well this September. I stopped putting lots of keywords in Fotolio since when some people thought that having less than 10 keywords would give you a better position. I guess that strategy now works for September! Haha! I'm not complaining!

Sorry to disagree but my older images keywords are still not found by their search engine when searching for more than ONE keyword.

Actually I didn't get much sales in July either. My sales picked up in the latter part of August and I have been getting sales almost every day now whereas before, it was just probably once a week! This is a big big improvement for me.

Whatever tweak they did! It works so congrats to us Peter! ahahha

Something what I HATE on fotolia is when you click on your own photo to sort keywords or anything else, site counts that like view... >:(

if best match looks for ratio between views and downloads (somebody mentioned that it does) than excessive views with no downloads are very bad

In the forum Fotolia Q&A Frequently Asked Questions (dated 29/03/2008) it states the following:

Q. Can I edit keywords after the image has been accepted?
A. No.  You need to get the keywords correct when uploading and in the correct order.  Put your most relevant keywords first.  They cannot be reordered or changed.

Q. Keywords and Phrases
A. Always put the most relevant keywords first.  Do not use phrases as these cannot currently be found.  Use single words with commas between.
For instance for the bird called a "Tree Creeper" do not use:  tree creeper, but do use:  tree, creeper,  Even though this makes the keywords look incorrect as there may not be a tree visible it is part of the bird's common name.

Does any know for sure if the keyword order is truly important?

Some site allow phrases, are phrases important on these other sites?

I guess my question really is, how do you deal with the various keywording rules across all the sites you submit to?

Fotolia FAQ hasnt been updated 2 years....

it also says you can cache out any amount, but in fact, you can only over 50 credits. dont listen what FAQ says, sometimes it is incorect info.

Until recently (sales have picked up at FT) the first Seven Words which conjured in my mind regarding FT were very similar to George Carlin's.

LOL, and we all know that the rules are subject to change at any time.

I just checked to see my BDE (excluding one day with a few EL') at Fotolia.  It's so nice to see after V2, sure does not seem like the same site these days.   ;D
