I'm done. What's the best way to delete your account at Fotolia? What is the minimum payout? Can I still keep my account to maintain a presence?

I didn't know if anyone had any experience with this.

Go exclusive man!  as an independant, this business is finished!  in six months all the other big 5, will have walked the same way and youll be working for peanuts.

Not really the direction I was thinking.  ;D

Yeah... go exclusive... at least then you only get shafted by one agency at a time...

Not sure how to delete the account but I can tell you the minimum payout is $50.  Not sure if that changes with what level you're at.

Write something in these forums that FT doesn't like and they'll delete your account for you :)

Collect your payout first though...

If you're above base level there you might consider just deleting your portfolio instead of closing your account. (i did it that way, in the highly unlikely case they ever come to their senses no bridges are burnt forever...)

I think that's a fine approach - and it also keeps your user name from being used by anyone else. However, when I did that (in August 2008 when I went exclusive at IS), a few months later FT deleted my account. I don't know if that was automatic or if they weren't happy at something I said here.

I deleted my photos down to 2 pix  that were 'regular' sellers.   It will take me a long time to reach payout,   but since I've done this, my account has not been abused nor have I had to endure tedious hassle to fix the 'problems' that  would repeatedly crop up. If I could get my money, I'd end it all...  but after all I've been thru with them...  no way I want to allow them to keep the measly money that is
there.  Personally,  $50 isn't much to me.  That isn't even a half tank of gas in my Suburban....   it's not about the money,  it's the principle..   it may take until the end of time to hit payout..  but,  I'll wait.  8)=Tom

You can use up your remaining credits by purchasing images you might need for designs.  No sense in leaving money on the table for them.

This is really short sighted.  I may not have your image making talent, but from a business perspective this is going to backfire.  What do you think iStockphoto is going to do to your exclusive commission percentages when they are the only game in town worth playing in?

You are correct and a smart move if you purchase photos.  However, like many others,  I'm just a shooter,  I don't buy, no need.    No doubt,  FT will fold up and fade away before I hit payout and they will wind up with the $$ anyway.. LOL
If  I could be sure my account wouldn't go to hell again,  I'd load up a hundred pix and speed the process up,  cash out in a short time...   but,     frankly,  I don't trust them.  8)=tom

When in doubt, just buy up Lev Dolgachov's images.

Thanks for all the advice. I went through and deleted about 3000 files and I'm down to 1.

Same for me. I didn't close the account, I removed all images and asked for final payout. I think they got the hint and when I went back months later, I don't exist. Fine with me, I'm not doing the swinging door.

That was in response to changes they made in 2008 to levels, commissions and attitude and then in 2009 the final was everything started being "these don't sell well" type rejections where I had 100% on month accepted and 100% the next, refused, same type, style and methods to create the images.

I try not to write on forums for agencies that I don't belong to anymore. Trying to be fair. But if they just cut commissions again, I'm even happier that I pulled the plug.

Happy with SS and IS, because of what you wrote in the percentage thread. Sometimes it's more than just percentages.

When I was prepping to close my account last year, I think I had $38 in balance. I asked for a payout and somehow got it. When the payout cleared Paypal, I sent the a "Please close my account " email, and they responded with this exact quote:

"Why? Did we do something wrong?"

I replied with "Please just close it" and within 2 days it was gone.

I'll be out of there too once my last payout reaches PayPal. Anyone know of a quick way to delete images? I seem to have found out just one way...item by item. I'd rather not have them on there after payout and I'd rather not have to wait for them to remove them.
