I noticed that I have a sale every time I upload new files, even though the file that sales is not among the new files! That's really confusing.  Do you think there is a connection? Uploading more files gets you a better place in the search results or something? I don't think these are coincidences because my sales on this website are dreadful, I sell almost nothing, except when I upload a new batch. After that I always sell one of the older pictures  ( screw logic  :o  )

Not sure about that but in the last two weeks my .35 subs have skyrocketed.

How many images are in your port and what are you shooting?

I have about 300 images. I shoot people, food, medical stuff, concepts, isolated objects and famous places in my country which are not so well covered by others. I'm seeing constant sales on SS, Fotolia and Canstock, decent sales on Deposit and 123RF and 1 or 2 sales per month on Dreamstime...it's a huge difference if I compare it with the other websites.

I started microstocking mid-2011 and DT was immediately my top agency. Images sold well and consistently the first six months....and then came 2012 and it all but disappeared. My portfolio grew (I have about 1000 now) but sales either stagnated or declined....that is, until the last few months whereby DT is suddenly alive and well.

For me, its a consistent pattern with mid-tier agencies although when the others drop in sales it doesn't last as long. SS is the only agency whereby the more I have in my portfolio, the more I earn....month after month. The odd glitch but consistent most of the time.

There is no pattern - that is the pattern. Just continue to upload good quality images that appeal to commercial buyers. Don't over analyze things- keep it simple... :-X

I think there is a pattern.  Don't have it totally analyzed but seems like 2 days on 10 days off.  Maybe 12 days off?

Then ... you throw in the subs vs credit sales .... well,
it gives me something to do.   8)

DT definitely has strange ups and downs, don't know if there's a 'pattern', but I'll go a week without a sale, then get a bunch.   And I might have a month or so with a lot of single-price sales, then the next month nothing but subs.  I think there is some sort of rotation.  It may also be that you get a boost immediately after an upload.

No point in trying to figure out these games, because if you ever did, they'd just change the following week.

DT is absolutely terrible for me. They are NOT top tier for sure. I have been uploading a lot of images of late but it hasn't made a dent. When I first joined I was getting great downloads and then they tanked. One sale in a blue moon in fits and starts.

Make between $800 and a $1,000 a month on Shutterstock; same port can't even get a monthly payout on DT.

Cause they have this silly similar image thing about your own images competing with your own images crap!!!!!!!!!!

I like it. Sales at DT have always been a rollercoaster for my port and consequently I only sob or cheer over QOQ and YOY results.

How can it be unrelated?? Care to explain?

Considering there is no way he nor anyone else can have the same port at DT because they will hit you with similars!

And I know what Rob shoots so I am sure they hit him with similars!

Just as it would be with you and all of your eye shots! They would be hit with similars!

If you were on DT then you would know this!!!!

Not necessarily true.  I have never had a refusal because of a similar at DT.  I stagger uploading there so that a whole batch of similars doesn't go though at once and I make sure that titles and descriptions are all different.

So Rob is lying when he says its the same portfolio on DT?

The fact that he cant reach payout each month on DT has nothing to do with similar rejections. Are you suggesting that because of a few similar rejections the difference mounts up to 750 dollar per month?

I did submit to DT, assumption is the mother...

That's a huge difference! I get regular monthly pay outs at Dreamstime (big swings so not every month) and I make about 60% less on DT compared to SS. but I must say my port is bigger at DT by 200+ images. Your gap is about 90%(?). And I think this also might be because I used to be exclusive so I have many level 4 and 5 images. Being exclusive for a wile is still benefitting me now. But your $900 average at SS for about 1400 images is very Nice!  :)

Dreamstime has changed for me since a few months. New images are selling al of the sudden were they used to take months before they got sales. So that is nice but I am not really seeing my income growing. My earnings did not really increase wile my port has grown by 200 images. I only notice a direct increase in earnings with growing port at Fotolia and Shutterstock.

Well, OK, not the same exact port, image for image. That's practically impossible to do. But everything that does sale on Shutterstock is also on Dreamstime. I don't really have a problem with similars on Dreamstime. When I put my port there, I was just more selective and I didn't put up some of the crappy ones from when I first started in stock that are floating around at the bottom of my Shutterstock port. Putting those on Dreamstime would not all of a sudden jump the earnings equal to Shutterstock nor get me a monthly payout.

So for all intents and purposes, it is the same port. I'll have a week of good sales there, then like two weeks of nothing. For me, Dreamstime fits in behind 123RF, Bigstock and Fotolia, but ahead of Deposit Photos, Canstock and Veer.

In the end, I get between $800-$1000 from Shutterstock and like $200-300 from all the other sites combined. I'm happy with that, but I'd like to see it keep growing like it has.

And I wouldn't call it "average" earnings. It's what I'm making now. If I averaged out my Shutterstock earnings over a year, it would be lower because I generally make more and more every month, except for December when drops 50 to 60 percent.
