I have opted out of China in distribution scheme last April but had again tens on sales to China (China,Editorial website) for a couple of cents each.  I have also opted out of Novel use.  These sales were all dated 20 September 2022.  Any idea what is going on?

It takes months for distribution sales to be reported so you will continue to get them for a while.

However you should also take Alamy to task if you are still getting distribution sales after 6 months as they are notorious for failing to ensure your images have been removed from sale by distribution re-sellers.

As for novel use that should stop pretty quickly however there may be some that haven't been reported yet.

How can we opt out of distribution sales to China?  I want out of that but can't see how.  I've written an e-mail to Alamy but am not holding my breath that that will work.

I've been opted out for years and it still doesn't stop them. They just say, "Oops, our mistake. We'll not do it again! Until next time!".

I had the same problem today, 17 sales to a Chinese editorial site for a paltry total of $0.72.
I have emailed Alamy as I too am supposed to be opted out.
Given the eclectic mix of images I would be very surprised if this is a genuine editorial site and what worries me most is that none of the images (photos and illustrations) has any obvious editorial use.
One has to wonder how these images are really being used.

You can opt out of distro sales in April.
You also need to be opted out of Novel Use, which IIRC can be done at any time.
However, people over on the Alamy forum regularly report that they have been opted out of both and still get the minute or worse 'sales' to China.

Apparently Alamy opened the opt-out window for China distributor sales for a contributor with very low sales commissions based on the below statement that was  posted in their Forum very recently today.  Alamy's Forum has reports from numerous other contributors that have recently experienced the same

Unclear if China distribution opt-out is also currently open to other contributors with recent very low sales commissions from their China distributor sales.

"We're aware that the sales you have seen through distribution have been quite lower than normal this is because of a deal we have made with the distributor in China to secure business away from competitors in that specific market area. This was for images in accounts that were signed up for both Distribution in China and Novel use.

We realise that once the commission has been taken into account, it has meant that the amount owed to you is very small. Therefore, were giving you the option to opt out of distribution in China and/or novel use early to avoid any future low sales. If you wish to opt-out of distribution in China, and novel use now (before April) please let us know."

Received an email today apologising for the error and saying that contributors will receive the 100% commission on these sales and they will try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I got 90 downloads yesterday, all mostly 2 cents and all from China. I havent heard back yet, but suspect I will get the same response. So wow, I get to keep the whole 2 cents. Big whoop. What I want to know is how/who opened up this capability and why? Hard to believe it opened up just in time and long enough for the Chinese to download a boatload of images.  These sales dont happen like this all year. So this is suspicious on ALAMYs part.

I think these sales happen continuously over months, but somehow someone at Alamy has allowed the prices to be so low and for the so called distributor to only report them every 6 months or so.  I have one 7 cent sale for which they each deduct 3 cents leaving me with about 14% - one cent. If I wanted a percent that low I'd stick with Getty.

The Alamy team opted out for me in September for Novel use, and China + Russian distribution.
As I can see today i still have sales for 0.01$ to China.
It's an insult to all contributors and to the world of photography.
I've just sent an email today to ask for explanations.
If nothing is done Im going to close my account of this joking site.

I will definitely do the same.
I'm tired of sending them emails and getting nothing but false promises.

Also had these. I was warned when opting out that there could be payments for sales that already happenend before that time (August last year I think). I hope these are just late reported sales from before opt out.

this is the beauty of their random reporting and totally random deals they do, they always have a built in excuse.

I just had another distributor sale for $23. I am opted out of distributor sales. So whatever they claim is fixed is not fixed.

I just received this from Alamy.

"Ive had a look in your account and can see the distribution sale and that you are indeed opted out of Distribution.  I have asked our distribution team to make sure this does not happen again.  Please accept our apologies."

That's it. An apology, just like the China sales, yet their opt out system still doesn't work. Alamy will hide behind an apology stating it won't happen again yet they aren't doing jack s-h-i-t to actually fix the problem.

I just emailed them back and asked for the distributor commission be added to my account. I'm sure they won't do that but....

At least it wasn't for 2 cents - but that is still unacceptable.

Not that they were great before, but after PA media took over their trustworthiness is even less impressive.

Hi,

I wrote a review on google maps. They even replied to me saying that they "just answered my emails". I edited that yes, they did reply but they didn't solve my problem.

Today I saw a $10 payment in my account - "ASCRL Summer Distribution - DEC 2022"....
Very interesting....

I also asked to be opted out of China + Russia sales, but I still got a bunch sales from China, in December last year.
I complained, and Alamy told me that I will get the "full amount" instead of just the normal sales percentage.

Yesterday, I got a couple of payments labeled  "Other Income", around $40 each.

Is this the "full amount" they were talking about? Because if it is, then the commission for these sales was less than 2%  :o
